From Cleanup Jamaica Queens:
NYCDOT, city property at 92-33 168th St. This is hardly the first time this city property has looked like a garbage dump. In fact in my over three years here, it has always been a problem.
168th Street LIRR Overpass Tunnel.
(And the private property is even worse.)

It looks like that because of the people who live in the area dump and drop garbage there. The garbage fary does not come by at night putting It there. If police or sanitation stop the people littering or dumping (aka broken windows) and issue summonses the community comes out and cries racism and harassment.
If you want a cleaner neighborhood hold your neighbors accountable who litter and dump and support the enforcement officers who issue summonses to these people.
Yes, people are responsible for the dumping. But the powers that be are responsible for keeping it clean.

................BUT the enforcement has not been happening for years and that is THE PROBLEM. If you do not enforce laws, they will be broken and then that becomes the norm. And the leaders have just stood by and ignored this as opposed to actually doing their jobs as public servants.
Also that city property always looks like that, which means the city is not cleaning up their own property on a daily basis.
To make this more effective you should publish the schedule of the local elected officials and the community board minutes.
I would like to see what the hell those nitwits think is important ... while on our tab.
As a child growing up in Queens in the 60's we had anti pollution and anti littering campaigns to teach us to respect our environment and neighborhood. Dose anyone remember "Give a hoot — don't pollute!" ?
