From the Sunnyside Post:
...Center Cinemas’ lease comes to an end December 31 and Rudy Prichard, the owner of the movie theater, has yet to hear whether his lease will be renewed. He is not hopeful.
As for PJ Horgan’s, its lease ends June 2018. The owner of the bar could not be reached for comment.
The former bank building, on paper, is owned by 42-25 Queens Boulevard Realty Corp.
However, according to several sources, Gina Argento, the president of Broadway Stages, the Brooklyn-based TV and movie production company, is the owner.
Argento could not be reached for comment.

I suppose we'll see a John Ciafone banner hanging off the side of whatever is built here.

why would anyone go see a movie in that when there is Loews on 34th street, AMC on 42nd and if you really want a treat, go to Lincoln Center Cinemas
You really missed the point of this post, didn't you?
Would be spectacular if was made into a non profit Indy film theater!
Ok, for the dim bulbs out there:
The point is not the quality of the theater. The point is that a slumlord's wife with a history of shady development projects bought it and god knows what she will do with it. This is a blog about overdevelopment. Hello?
So a whole bunch of businesses that the community is loyal to are going to be displaced by Gina and John? (It's not just the theater that's being evicted, folks.) This is going to be a nightmare.
Maybe they will make it into an art studio or something to take the place of 5 Poontz. I know the owners, and they wouldn't desecrate a nice neighborhood.
The Sunnyside BID should step in .
They wouldn't desecrate a neighborhood? Have you been paying attention to the John Ciafone/Gina Ciafone stories on this blog? Everyn property they own has some kind of violation on it. Mr. Ciafone even landed on DeBlasio's slumlord list. Wake up, people!
By making Astoria, LIC, Woodside, Sunnyside "more desireable" to the "meet, mingle, mate and move" crowd, they are making these neighborhoods utterly uninhabitable to those of us who were born and raised and did much of the building and shopping and living and dying here.
@anon1
Why the f*ck would any local want to travel that far and deal with those crowds just to see a movie? Especially during Winter
@anon2 nobody wants your indy hipster crap anywhere in this f*cking city dont you realize your kind is hated wherever they take their precious, overprivileged sheltered asses?
what the heck is she wearing?!
Make access between the theater & bar and have concerts & local band nights.
It could be a win for both tenants. It be a shame to loose another theater to fugly retail and sleeping barracks.
"Local band nights"
You mean transplanted hipster band night right?
No thank you!
Good lord. This property is not going to be an indy theater or an art space. There is no scene here. Given the location and the zoning it is obvious what will happen. It is going to be knocked down to become a dorm for kids from Ohio who can't afford Greenpoint and LIC rents, just like half of Astoria. Or it will be knocked down, the market will tank, and we'll enjoy a vacant eyesore for the next decade.
"transplanted hipster band night right?"
Hmm very interesting.
Well, come to think about it those hipsters don't work or have to get up in the morning. 2-they always have plenty of mommy daddy money to blow, 3-never expect to get paid for the crap the create. That could actually work quite well. Karaoke night too !! I'm sure Gina is already on this because a liquor license is already on the property.
I am not a hundred percent sure but just going around Western Queens it seems like the great so called hipster invasion of the area is slowly petering out. They are sure as hell still all over Brooklyn, but I really don't see too many around here anymore.
Gotta love those 'Brooklyn-based' bands!
NOT!
Don't quit your day job - that's if you indeed have one!
HAH!
