From NY1:
At a current cost of around $750 million, the massive new police academy sitting out in the College Point section Queens is behind schedule. The new head of NYPD Training said he's hoping to open the doors in January.
"When we begin to train our officers there, they won't want to go home. That's how nice it is," said Benjamin Tucker, NYPD Deputy Commissioner for Training.
Ground was broken for the academy during the Bloomberg administration and was scheduled to open in December of 2013. Construction delays, problems after Hurricane Sandy and even a fire at the location postponed the opening.
The NYPD says the building has dozens of smart classrooms, mock courtrooms, banks, stores and other facilities for training.

What a stupid thing to say when you're pissing away tax-payers' dollars at an exponential rate.
The rest of the country is suffering and this asshole brags about how nice a training academy is????
For the morons they let into the police force????
NYC cops suck - especially the ones in Queens. They answer calls reluctantly and then don't seem to want to work!!! They just like giving out tickets and they seem to be missing all the assholes in Flushing that consistently run stops and reds!
So all you ever see cops doing is writing tickets, but then you complain that cops DON'T write tickets. And you vote. Great.
There's a bigger concern for the community. As someone who lives close to the facility, the traffic nightmare that currently exists is only going to worsen. They put up this training facility with no regard for the infrastructure, especially the nearby highway and local streets. Let the games begin!

NYPD doesn't care about crimes committed with a motor vehicle. Too hard to catch them anyway. Also PBA says no photo enforcement because cops should be the ones to do it...you figure out the logic there.
When it opens will Steve Guttenberg, Kim Catrall, G.W. Bailey, and Bubba Smith be at the ceremony?
No public transportation! I guest that whopping 40k salary minus taxes, union dues, 5% pension contribution and medical Should leave enough lft for a spiffy '93 Sentra.........
A government project over budget and behind schedule??? I dont believe it!!!!

Stop. After just 5 years on the job, they make 70k without OT pay. They will have that Sentra for a few years, then show up to the pct house in their X5 or G37 for the rest of their careers.
At that 5-year mark, they get a full MONTH of vacation a year, unlimited sick leave, boatloads of insurance programs, etc.
Lets not pretend the cops are doing this job for low pay out of the goodness of their hearts.
Amen anon. The thieves at the NYPD are bankrupting this city. Their compensation package costs taxpayers well in excess of $200k per year. And there are more of them per capita than anywhere else in the world. They don't do shit. They're criminals and should be hanged.
