Parking wars getting nasty in Glendale
From CBS 2:
A note on a windshield is one thing, but neighbors said a spray-painted message reading, “Learn how to park S-bag,” is another.
The owner of the silver car did not want to be identified. She parked at 68th Street and Myrtle Avenue Tuesday night and woke up to the angry message.
“I know how hard it is to find spots in this neighborhood. So I would try to leave space if there was space,” the woman said. “So it’s like, very upsetting.”
Another note in black spray paint on another car read, “Hey scumbag park right.” Police said the second car was tagged overnight just two blocks away from the other.
Neighbor Doreen Pratt said the car was parked perfectly fine.
“There was no way another car would have fit there,” Pratt said. “A smart car was even too big for it.”
A surveillance camera at a nearby school captured an image that may have been the parking vigilante, walking by with spray paint.
Residents in Glendale said parking is a real issue, but to punish drivers by vandalizing their vehicles is excessive.

Nobody's car should be vandalized over a parking spot, but some drivers in Queens really are self-absorbed asshats when it comes to on-street parking. When I lived in Kew Gardens, I would watch people re-parking their cars after alternate side restrictions were lifted - leaving six foot or more gaps in between. Two - three feet fore and aft is more than enough, and I learned to parallel park in spaces only two feet longer than my car without tapping anybody's bumper. I never understood why the city didn't paint lines on the streets and ticket people who parked over the lines.
I also wondered why they don't do parking lines here. Is it because there's such a variety of vehicle sizes? If someone has a suburban, they're always going to be over the lines. Someone with a Mini or Smart car is always going to seem like they're wasting space. At any rate, I'd settle for them doing fire hydrant lines in this City.
i don't leave a lot of space, but my honda cr-v is pretty bad with estimating space. most times i think i don't have any, i have a few feet. same with a lot of other cars.
and people are still nervous about a bad parker scratching their bumpers trying to fit in their SUV monstrosity
I prefer putting an awl through a tire's sidewall.
The corresponding Hiss is refreshing.
80% of the properties in glendale come with off-street parking of some sort, but some people refuse to use it. They'd rather use their garage for storage, or fill their yard with a tacky above-ground pool.
Of course, they then have to use street parking beause of their selfishness.
Most homes in glendale can accomidate TWO vehicles on-property, garage and yard.
There is one dickbag family on my block. Three cars in the family, Zero parked on their property, and they all three eack take a pair of spots. That one household occupying six spots.
I hope a fire burns their home down.
The vandal could earn hero status if he targeted placard abusers. Instead, he's targeting fellow civilians.
I would like to personally invite this vandal to Flushing!
He's a hero!
I live in Glendale and my car has been "tagged" before by an anonymous "Parking Avenger," over by Cooper Ave and 64th - 61st area. I've come to my car to find notes on my windshield, dates on my tires, even markings on my windows in crayon.
It's completely out of hand. I know parking is tough in Glendale, but there's nothing neighborly about harassing drivers who park their vehicles legally. As much as you may be upset that I left my car in front of your house for 5 days, I know what my rights are for street parking, and don't need your passive aggressive scribbles to figure it out.
Anon 5 what's it to you if someone parks on the street? If you don't want to deal with on street parking sell your car or get a place with off street parking. They have as much right to those spaces as you.
I live in Maspeth and we have the same issues. An elderly couple on my block with a very long driveway and garage park both of their cars on the street. Only the wife drives; so why do they need two cars! They are just plain selfish people!!

i dont use them. I have a car, but i actually use my garage for its intended purpose.
I'd prefer if no street parking was ever allowed. Parked cars are unsightly and make streets seem crowded.

Parking on the street at night used to be illegal. Then everyone started doing at so the criminals were allowed to continue. Nothing ever changes in this city...
As of a few years ago, the city does not allow building new driveways anymore on non-condo buildings. The parking situation is only going to get worse over time.
Every home on my block (52nd Drive in Maspeth) has a driveway or a spot behind their home, yet all those driveways/spots are empty -- some because if the driveway had a car in it, the illegal tenants would have no way to get to their apts. in the back of the house! Also have lots of commercial vans on ours and the surrounding blocks -- we've had one from a company called M&S w/a Farmingdale address here all week long.
This especially applies to the Asians who don't know how to park or think they own a part of your driveway. Please someone spray paint there hondas, toyotas and hyundais!
A lot of those asians own german cars. It's the white folk that drive japanese and korean cars.
Whenever I visit family in Queens finding a parking space is the worst part of the visit.
