Inappropriate school behavior under investigation
From NBC:
The Department of Education is investigating after NBC 4 New York obtained a video showing kids fighting and horsing around in the middle of the day, apparently on school grounds.
The video shows a room full of students, some throwing punches and others wrestling.
A concerned mom who did not want her identity disclosed told NBC 4 New York her child, a student at M.S. 226 in Ozone Park, was in the trailer last week and showed her the video.
"It just seemed like a cage and kids going wild," the mom said.
She says her child was sent to the trailer as punishment one day last week because the child was not wearing the required school shirt. The child says all the kids in the trailer were there for detention, and that the trailer is regularly used for that purpose.
NBC 4 New York could not independently confirm where and when the video was shot, but the mother and child say it was the day the child was in the trailer.

School to prison pipeline. This is Mayor Funsize's Leadership Academy results for you.
This is what happens when you tell the teachers they will be sued if they even lay a finger on these animals.
"the school will launch its own investigation"
this has the feel of the badges scene from the treasure of sierra madre and claude rains denying gambling in casablanca.
what a statement by our school system and the decline of shame and civilization(all races).its sick that the adults there are good at enforcing arbitrary bullshit rules like uniforms(isn't this a public school?)and just throw kids in a shack with no one around.will all schools that issue detention be without a supervisor now?
and that woman nailed it,those are little kids, and the school is instilling criminal behavior in them.Chancellor Carmen better get in one of her town cars and put a stop to this.
and to reference another movie, the behavior exhibited by these awful kids weaned on social networking today were predicted by Anthony Burgess's A clockwork orange. These are the modern day droogies getting off on ultraviolence.Enabled by willfully oblivious parents, predatory local and national news stations, and indifferent and cynical police.
I fear for this country and humanity.Maybe we need another world war to get our shit together, even if we have to instigate it.
This is a phony scandal, their nutritional requirements are being met in school, that's all that matters
School is a horrible place. I worked there since the 90s and left 2 yrs ago. School control has declined under current principal. Actually she has no control. She has had many accusations against her. But like John Gotti she is Teflon. Nothing sticks.....
Screw the DOE and the Chancellor's Regulations, these damn administrator's only utilize them when it benefits them. Tear down the entire DOE and start over, these administrators are a bunch elitist assholes that should be brought down a few pegs. Been there seen them in action first hand.
This principal has political connections, and that is why she has been able to stay afloat, in spite of all the allegations that have been lodged against her these past few years. She is a horrible principal, and many excellent teachers left, because they could not stand working in a totalitarian environment. The truth is, the school is running amok.
When it's this far gone, any attempt by the adults in the room to bring order will end badly for all.
If any authority were to be used here after the fact, it surely would be against the adults risking injury or their lives to stop what we see here. It's a no-win. "The children" are untouchable.
This level of violence originates at home and not at school. It just gets recorded at school.
It is the responsibility of the principal to make sure things are running smoothly. Unfortunately, this principal buries her head in the sand. She stays near her office, because she knows she's incompetent.
One of the previous comments stated that the children are untouchable. Doesn't that also hold true for this principal?
It takes everyone employed to provide a solid education in a safe environment for these students. For many years, this school has been under a cloud of unsafe and dangerous activities under the leadership of at least 4 principals. The common thread is not the leadership, but the lack of ownership on the part of teachers and other employees who don't see these children as worthy of an excellent education. This example of students behaving badly is a direct result of a teacher's neglect of his/her responsibilities in the classroom. A gross neglect of his/her duties, which has been a pattern in all instances of unsafe behavior. In this school and many schools in NYC. It's time for these employees to step it up and earn the money that tax payers are paying them to educate their children.
