From Brownstoner Queens:
The developers Sithonia LLC recently filed a building application to erect a 40,999-square-foot residential build at 14-33 31st Avenue, between 14th and 21st Streets. The location in question is nestled right between Astoria and Long Island City, and just a few blocks from the waterfront. New York IMBY first spotted the DOB application, which also specifies that there will be 56 apartments total. It does not look like the developers will include any commercial space. The architect of record is Gerald J. Caliendo.
The L. B. Russell Chemical Plant formerly occupied this lot, meaning that site remediation efforts are probably in store. The DOB issued demolition permits for the one-story warehouse in October of last year.

Mercury, radon, lead, argon....Who wouldn't pay a king's ransom to live on top of this chemical mess?
Not much different living next to the open sewage on the river or the superfund site of Newtown Creek.
Now we will hear everyone complaining that there is no transit service on 21st street - a great thing for Mystery Mike Gianaris to get involved.
The rest of you in the double fare zone in eastern Queens will have to cool your heels as new transit will be directed to satisfying new development before you.
I'm pretty sure the old factory is already demoed.
Politicians around here just think people can walk to the N & Q...
Years ago you could get a seat on the train at rush hour, at Broadway.
Today, the train is standing room only by the time it leaves astoria blvd.
10 minute headways and no Q on weekends = standing room only during the day on weekends.
I guess you can take the Q100ltd with all the people coming and going from Rikers. That's some vibrant diversity right there.

Hey, isn't Astoria 'Saved.'
That is what happens when you are a silent witness to the pols and take no part on putting them in their place.
Its so easy, all you need to do is open your mouth.
I love it. My first two posts on the first blog I read daily: homes being being build where there should be a business - and a business operating where there should be homes.
Location, location, ah... what's the third thing?
Oh no, not Gerry Caliendo!!! For sure this project and building will look like crap, Queens Crap that is. That guy is a horrible designer and architect. Someone needs to teach him about different styles of architecture and materials.
Chemical Condos....has a certain ring to it.
