Flea market seeks liquor license

From the LIC Post:

The operators of the LIC Flea & Food are applying for two liquor licenses– which they say are needed to keep the market viable.

Executives for the LIC Flea & Food market told Community Board 2 last night that they want to cordon off a section of the parking lot at their 46th Avenue and 5th Street location for the purposes of selling liquor. They also want a license to sell liquor from an old ferry that is adjacent to that parking lot at Anable Basin.

Andrew Kirby, president of Plaxall, the company that owns the 24,000 sqf. lot and is a LIC Flea partner, said these licenses were important to the success of the market. Kirby spoke on behalf of Joshua Schneps, the founder, who was on vacation.

“They [the vendors] are telling us they are not getting enough business, and that people who buy a $13 lobster roll want to be able to buy a glass of beer,” Kirby said.

“A lot of these vendors were out summer weekends not selling anything,” Kirby said, adding that, “We may not be able to keep the flea market going if we can’t attract these vendors back… and to do that we need things like this.” He said that there is the “time clock” and that they need to get going with it.

However, the community board had a number of concerns about the licenses—such as the LIC Flea’s close proximity to the PS/IS 78Q, the lack of experience of the operators in running licensed establishments as well as noise and traffic concerns.

I knew this flea market was a dumb idea right from the beginning. No liquor license should be granted. Shut it down and call it a day .

Beer with my $31 lobster roll? No way, a glass of Gruner Veltliner perhaps, or Torrontes... but beer? No... unless, of course, it is a fine craft beer, a Victory Golden Monkey may do.

It is a FLEA MARKET, not a nightclub. I eat lobsters rolls and I don't feel the need to have beer with it, especially if I am at a flea market, plus I would not pay $13 for a lobster roll at a flea market.

This is just stupid bullshit. I guess this is the big concerns of living in LIC, "WHAT, no fucking beer with that overpriced lobster roll, while I look for a $1 piece of crap knickknack. The quality of life in LIC sucks."

Look, i hate these yupstier shiatbags, but using an excuse like "LIC Flea’s close proximity to the PS/IS 78Q, " just makes the compainters look like the douchebags.

Are you really concerned for the proximity to a school... for a summer weekend operation???

The SLA doesn't issue permits for just weekends. If they get it, they can have alcohol-related events whenever they like.

There are enough places to purchase alcoholic beverages or consume it on the premises. If this flea market can't make it without a alcoholic beverages license, then let it die.

Anyone living, dining, shopping, even at a flea market is having their wallet sucked dry. Developers and business owners will squeeze as much cash out of their victims As they can. LIC is for schmucks!

For a good laugh go to the LIC Post (http://licpost.com/2014/03/20/lic-flea-market-seeks-liquor-licenses-needs-them-to-remain-viable-executive-says/)and see the comments about this totally frivolous issue. I wish in Jamaica all I had to concern myself with is if I can get a beer with my lobster roll at a damn flea market.

I think it would be more appropriate for these folks to get a very nice "whine" with that roll.

Grüner Veltliner? How prole!!!

Personally I'd go for a Joh. Jos. Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling - 1959 is my favorite year.

In fact, I think I'll look in my wine cellar and grab one to accompany my lobster tonight.

yeah mention lobster roll, conjure up high end business, more money is good for LIC.
its a new gilded age in nyc, these money vomiting yups and hyps are not going down without a fight.3 months with the Blaz and his 2 cities spiel and they are getting more brazen.

you know something, give them the permit, cause these people are clearly alcoholics.hopefully they're conditions will get worse, wind up losing their non-creative jobs and their overpriced studios and wind up wallowing in their own filth.maybe they'll be able to grow a real beard in the process.
