From CBS New York:
A Queens lawmaker has introduced a measure that would require the New York Racing Association to pony up more funding for Aqueduct Racetrack.
As WCBS 880′s Jim Smith reported, New York State Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder is not happy with the current conditions at the racetrack.
“Aqueduct is downright disgusting,” said Goldfeder. “The building is falling apart, there’s facade issues. As has been reported multiple times, there’s been a tremendous amount of security issues.”
On Monday, Goldfeder announced legislation to require NYRA to use its share of casino money earmarked for capital projects only at Aqueduct.

The neighborhood all around it is shit too. So why don't you get rid of some of the people in that area while youre cleaning it up
As this is an election year, we'll be hearing from more and more State legislators taking up issues that they think will resonate with voters. Expect many, many photo-ops.
So this guy Goldfedder supports stuff like waterpark. When did he ever talk to the people who live around there to find out if they do?
This needs more money because ...?
Albany does shit for us and we sure the hell don't need two chambers in our legislature.
I thought they built some luxury casino out there to attract white people from Manhattan, no? Wasn't that supposed to upgrade the whole scene?
Once again, the neighborhood around acqueduct is working class home owners with some fedders rentals. On the whole, it's not a crappy neighborhood--it's just not affluent. But a little more building code reinforcement to prevent more fedders wouldn't hurt. Being as it is working class and not affluent, its residents are still mourning the loss of the flea market which actually was vibrant and diverse in a good way! The casino just helps folks lose the mortgage money.
the luxury casino is not responsible for the upkeep of the racetrack, its just there to steal money from the poor and desperate.
this place was never meant to attract tourism, they knew the demographics of the neighborhood.they figured if people are willing to spend 100 a day playing 3,4 numbers, quickdraw and powerball they will come to that dump.
It's a hangout for 3rd World losers.
Another example of government by press release. Lots of talk, no action.
