Worldport gone from this world

Pan Am — few names better connote the optimism of the jet age than this fabled brand.
Behold the demolition of its iconic home at JFK. Pan Am may be a hip fashion accessory that even spawned a TV show, but its historic home was not immune to the all-too-common fate of other midcentury modern buildings.
Delta is tearing it down despite its placement on a prominent endangered buildings list.

Another crime of vandalism committed against the Borough of Queens.
This is Queens. Were you expecting a happy ending?
Now, were will the Jetsons land their craft?
Was about 8 years old when this opened. We used to visit the airport and watch the planes and this building along with the TWA and American Airlines building were new.
The following year Alan Shepard blasted into space as we watched it on TV at PS-135.
And the World's Fair was under construction.
What a great time to be growing up in Queens.
It had already been crapified 30 years ago, so every time I would go to JFK I was still amazed to see it standing and used. Next will be the TWA terminal. They're holding that one until they can't possibly hold it any longer, but garanteed it will come down as well.

TWA is landmarked. Its not going anywhere.
Open air balconies when you could just walk out and observe planes landing and taking off.
