From the Daily News:
Councilman Leroy Comrie re-launched his bid for borough president this week by dropping a stunning bombshell: he wants a new subway line in Queens.
“The E and the F lines are more congested — we could build another line in that tunnel,” said Comrie (D-St. Albans). “Those are the most congested lines in the city.”
The J and Z lines that connect Brooklyn to Queens also could use an overhaul, he said.
The cost of additional service makes Comrie’s proposal as likely as a Mets World Series victory this year. After all, the long delayed Second Avenue subway, which will run from 63rd to 96th Sts. in Manhattan, will cost $4.5 billion by the time it is finished in 2016.
Of course, reality will set in. Beyond the astronomical cost, expanding the E or F lines would be virtually impossible because the areas further east are prone to flooding, Comrie noted.
So for now, he admits his top priority would be bolstering the current bus service, which helps connect the rail-starved sections of Queens.

Tandem buses; select service routes would be a start.
YES! How about serving North Flushing, Whitestone and Bayside?
It takes over 1 1/2 hours to get to downtown. Unless you live in the cite, NY has the shittiest public transportation.
Forget about getting to Brooklyn from Queens - you have to go through Manhattan!
It would be nice to get somewhere without going through the FluShing Third World Filthy, Stinking Ghetto!
Wonder what his relationship with Vallone?
Katz needs every vote she can get.
Look how that Brinkerhoff Cemetery crowd jumped on Vallone's bandwagon ignoring his record on these things and focusing on their fantasy of their new 'special relationship' with that slug.
A mayfly has more memory of the real world than many Queens voters.
Jeez. As usual, let's forget Staten Island. We would LOVE congestion - it would mean we actually HAVE something to congest!
How about dreaming a little smaller first, like cleaning up and revitalizing Jamaica, especially since that is your area that you live in and serve. Then you can move onto the subway infrastructure.
Ah give the guy a break, Joe, he is a nice guy with no STOMACH for that crap, but transit is the BIG idea thing for a feller that thinks BIG.
No pol wants to get near quality of life. You never make anything on that, its endless work, and you tick off half the people making trouble while the other half never thanks you because they think its your job.
*tsk tsk* on the title, Crappy.
;-)
Oh, shit...
here goes that anti Northeast jealous malcontent raving again. Johnny one note got stuck in a grove again...just like a "Max Headroom" glitch.
(Don't bother. I won't explain that one).
Give it a rest fella and move out here already, and
lower your blood pressure
I'll bet I can get from Auburndale to Manhattan quicker than you can from Astoria...is it?
