From Crains:The federal government has cracked down on four New York City area airports for what it calls "egregious" violations of safety and rescue regulations involving more than 250 police officers.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey oversees John F. Kennedy International, La Guardia, Newark Liberty International and Teterboro airports. The agency confirmed Monday that it was fined over $3 million for violations going back to 2010.
A Port Authority spokeswoman says the Port Authority officers linked to the violations did attend recertification sessions that some of the paperwork that proves it was lost or not completed. She says an undetermined number of officers may have missed hours.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says violations won't be tolerated.
The agency is working with the Federal Aviation Administration to rectify the lapses.

Safety is a sham.
Most airlines are too cheap to really care about it.
It's all a game of smoke and mirrors that's being played by the FAA to give passenger-customers a sense of false security.
