Why is NY's Medicaid so damn expensive?

From the NY Post:

State Senate Republicans plan to investigate New York’s costliest-in-the-nation Medicaid system and echoed congressional calls for an independent audit of the $54 billion annual program.

The Senate GOP said it will particularly target accusations of “complacency and inaction” by the state Office of the Medicaid Inspector General under Gov. Cuomo.

The Republicans also said yesterday that New York’s Medicaid program generally needs more continual monitoring and evaluation from outside auditors.

A recent congressional report contended that New York overbilled the federal government by billions of dollars over 20 years.

NY is a statist enterprise in cooperation with the banks. No free market exists in NY. Hence, prices are always higher in NY. Why anyone would choose to live in NY is beyond me. It is a cesspool of taxes, giveaways, cronyism, nepotism, and communism.

Illegal immigrants scamming the system is the answer to your question. they know to under report earnings to qualify for medicaid. and you know all those disabled people who have 24 hour-round the clock- home health aides and who are supposed to be with them 24/7?

well, those NYS funded employees might work three hours a day. the rest the home health aide disappear. disabled person gets the kick back and goes about on their own, demanding help from anyone near by.

The Centers for Independence of the Disabled, CIDNY aids their clients in defrauding NYS medicaid.

CIDNY should be investigated and shut down. typical practices of disabled with home healths should be investigated and put more controls on the people who qualify for medicaid payments since they were disabled before the age of 18.
Regardless of income they get medicaid, yes it pays for very expensive electric wheelchairs, adult diapers, chocks, wipes and the 24 hour home health aids. The HHA expertise is in watching tv and complaining to other Caribbeans about their salary AND medical benefits they get courtesy of NYS Medicaid.

Go to Rego Park, Forest Hills, or Brighton Beach and note the over abundance of clinics and pharmacies. And note all of the van / ambulette services that shuttle hundreds of so called sick patients to these clinics e Rey day of the week...where are the inspectors??

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently accepted the obamacare medical exchange program. the feds. will pay IOO% of the nys medicaid costs for ONLY THREE YEARS. Then the fed. payment will lower to 90%.

26 states have refused this federal DEAL.so far. why?

these states fear that with a almost $17 TRILLION FEDERAL DEBT the federal government (obamacare) will eventually renege on all medicaid exchange costs. at that point, the NYS taxpayer will be left to pay for all NYS MEDICAID COSTS .

thank you Andrew.......

It's all third-party payment, so neither the provider nor the patient has any interest in controlling the cost, or even the provision of the services that the feds are getting billed for.

Medicaid is a god-awful mess, and to me best illustrates the problems inherent in for-profit medical care. The OUTRAGE lies in the State of New York taking federal $ and diverting it to general operating expenses, rather than medical care. NYS was busted, rightly so, but will repay the stolen money by axing the program by 6% across the board. The money will NOT be repaid from the general operating funds.

Folks, I'm not talking about the pharmacias... This will impact programs that serve people with developmental disabilities - people who have already seen a sharp decline in services due to budgetary constraints. How dreadful: Pappa Cuomo oversaw the closing of Willowbrook; the son, on the other hand, looks to shaft these people.

#7 ...do you consider NYC taxpayers spending about $90,000 per ONE Special Education public school pupil/per year.....GETTING SHAFTED ?

If you still have not figured out that our for-profit system is raping us, read this Time Magazine article:

Anon 8, you are conflating apples with oranges. We were talking about Medicaid, not education. But I'll respond, anyway (sorry for going off-topic, Crappy!) Yes, many people ARE shafted - a good deal of that cost (six figures) is due to residential placements, often out of state, ripping the student out of community and removing parents and guardians from the equation, then returning the student at age 21 to a community s/he is unfamiliar with, to parents who have little training in what works best to support the student, and generally, complete chaos. Meanwhile, those who remain are shafted by third party related service providors (speech therapists, for example) who often bill for services never delivered, or are inappropriate for the student, and so deliver no "valued outcome." Spec Ed students get something called an "IEP" which often is nothing more than an open-ended, non-specific paper exercise, delivering little if any benefit to the student. So, with Spec Ed, everyone gets shafted: taxpayers, students, and their families. And finally, Spec Ed fails miserably at preparing students for transition to adulthood - and THAT's often where Medicaid comes in.

does anybody know the salaries of the officers of agencies that support group adult homes selected in Bayside,Little Neck, and N.E Queens ? All areas that command $800,000.00 to $1.5 million to purchase the property.

C.P.B.'s can not vote these adult homes out of their area, because the Judiciary will not permit it.why can't some families take care of their own children any more ?

would not locating these homes in much lower real estate markets be more economical during a depression and when tax payers are fleeing the N.Y.C area for lower tax states as Florida and Texas ?

Rego park is the haven for food stamp and Medicaid fraud. Inspectors should be sent to all the pharmacies clinics and Russian owned groceries -- a real eye opener for those of us who pay cash and speak English. Not a taxpayer in the bunch on 63rd drive.

Because theres too many foreigners in nyc!! Simple answer!! And you want to make 1 million illegals living in nyc, legal instead of deporting these welfare/food stamp/medicaid suckers!

I'm 57 and work all my life……my Father came here from Italy at 29 years old….before the week was up, he had a job. He was a non-educated man. He work and went to school learning to cut hair. Never did he lower himself to a hand-out. He supported his family and my grandmother. I was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in a 2 family house he purchased.
What the H*** is wrong now! I sick and tired of working hard and paying for medicaid fraud for illegal
aliens.
