Should Albany have term limits?

From the Daily News:

Assembly approval of a taxpayer-funded settlement in the Vito Lopez sexual harassment scandal has spurred a renewed push to limit how long a lawmaker can serve as a legislative leader or a committee chair.

Sen. Joseph Griffo (R-Utica) and Assemblywoman Sandra Galef (D-Westchester) want to revisit an earlier bill that would cap at 12 years the time one could serve as Assembly speaker, Senate majority leader or a minority leader. Committee chairmanships would be restricted to eight-year stints.

“It’s a good time to look it,” Galef said, noting that the allegations against Assemblyman Lopez have brought the issue to the public’s attention. “It could be that people look at it differently now.”

The bill was previously bottled up in committee.

The Senate already has a rule that limits a majority leader to eight years, which is four terms. The Assembly has no limits on leadership tenure.

Every elected office should have term limits. Two terms are plenty.

One term works for me.

Then where would the Staviskys find employment?

Their dynasty has been in power since the 1950s.

Two terms...unless the third is a jail term!

I open up the newspaper, read a story about some guy with 40 arrests (for minor things) panhandling, shoplifting, possession of marijuana, drunk in public, vandalism etc....) and then I compare him to these politicians....... and I think to myself.

WHO IS THE REAL "CAREER CRIMINAL"?

Of course Albany should have term limits!

Now let's see if Senator Avella
will support having his own term limited.

That will be the real proof of his sincerity.

C'mon Tony....
introduce a bill proposing term limits.

Anon No. 7:

If you'll remember, he did in the City Council.

What do you think most other member of the State Senate (from both parties) think about it? Tony's just one vote.

Everyone in political office should have term limits. Two terms and out. As for the President, he should have one term, but the term should be for 6 years, instead of two four-year terms. This way, he/she would have enought time in office and they wouldn't have to campaign for a second term. Our president hasn't been in Washington for some time. Too busy campaigning, fundraising and appearing on Letterman and the View.

Term limits for Congress also!

And if he does it, you'll accuse him of doing it for the publiciyt, right?

Tony does EVERYTHING for publicity.

Photo ops are the life blood of career politicians.

Now wouldn't we all be much happier if Tony really accomplished something besides introducing bills
that went nowhere.

Yeah...now tell us about all of the down zoning he's done...all by himself...even though that's the job of the City Planning Commission.

No...
and I didn't forget his city council term limits intro.

Send Avella a valentine if you love him so much.
You've surely benn kissing his ass long enough.

I don't need to. Seeing the way guys like you react to him is probably all the love he needs.

You guys at County are running out of material.

All the love that Avella needs
is his NYS paycheck and his NYS benefits package.

Of course he has to put up with Toby Ann Stavisky.
That's a real bummer!

As soon as a NYC city council spot opens up,
he'll be running for it.

Those freakin' trips to Albany can be tiresome.

over the years former NYC, Cm.,NYS assemb.,state senator and now U.S.Senator (dem), Chuck Schumer has been the champ at tv publicity ."if it is sunday nite news ,here is Schumer with an irrelevant headline ".
but it works for the ignorant voters.

A media editor told me that John Liu filed more P.R. statements than any NYC politician, for years.

tony knows the game well and it works.

Tony lives in a simple post war
frame Cape Cod house off of 157th Street
(around 24th Ave.) in Whitestone.

If he were shady, he'd have owned a
more impressive home...dontcha think?
