A radio-controlled airplane fitted with a camera takes off from Powell's Cove Park and films some nice aerial views of College Point, but the battery falls out mid-flight and it crashes into a tree and is then recovered by the FDNY.
Now we have to worry about incompetently operated amateur aircraft falling out of the sky and clobbering us over the head in Queens? This could have killed somebody. That the aircraft owner evidently does not appreciate the problem, and posted this on YouTube in such cavalier fashion, is outrageous. FDNY resources had to be spent to recover the aircraft. The person responsible must be located, and charged with reckless endangerment of the public; and must pay restitution to FDNY for the cost of responding to retrieve the aircraft.
Not very likely one would get killed by one of these as it doesn't drop straight down but glides. And what FDNY resources were wasted other than a little gas? If they had something more important to do, they wouldn't be rescuing toy planes.
This might not be a plane, but a drone, similar to a helicopter. I don't think it glides. http://www.amazon.com/Parrot-AR-Drone-Quadricopter-Controlled-Android/dp/B003ZT5HWO
There used to be a great spot for model airplane pilots to operate their aircraft. It was in the Bronx where Trump is building his toxic golf course right next to the Whitestone Bridge. They had runways and the pilots could fly without fear of causing problems such as the concerns of other commenters. I used to drive over the bridge to watch various aircraft fly by remote control and enjoyed these mini airshows.

Anonymous said... I'd worry more about those seagulls hovering around that that waste transfer station in College Point causing a major air disaster! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Exactly!
What does that even mean? I see dime bags everywhere in Macneil park. Why don't you take a stroll on a Saturday night through the park then get back to me.

RC aircraft....
a great way for terrorists to do surveillance.
Maybe RC "hobbyists"
should be required to have an FCC license.
Wonderful Spectacular flight!

Why invest in an model airplane whenb you have Google Earth and Street View? Let's live in the real world.

Beautiful!!! How big is that plane?? It had to been up 2-300 feet! Great video as well.

I don't think a contraption like that drone could do somersaults like the machine in the video did.

Don't tell ME to take a troll stroll.
I think you meant "take a stroll, troll".
Your anger interfered with the accuracy of your post.
