Dozens of Hasidic Jews visiting from Israel were forced to vacate what officials say is an illegal transient hotel in the basement of a Brooklyn apartment building Thursday.
The visitors say they were here for the Jewish high holidays when they got word to leave Thursday afternoon.
They were allowed back in for a short time to get some belongings.
They say they're not sure where to go but are confident the Hasidic community will take care of them.
A building worker said it goes on every year but the Department of Buildings said it was unsafe because there is only one way out of the basement.
They issued two violations to the building's owner, who NY1 was unable to reach for comment.

Interesting title. Funny, if the basement had been full of baptists or hindus or episcopalians or catholics, something tells me the headline would not have highlighted their religions.

There is no slur being placed before the word Jew....such as "cheap", etc.
Therefore YOU are the phony one here fella...that is INTRODUCING allegations of racism or

The topic is illegal occupancy that could have cost these Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Mormons, etc. their lives....should a fire have broken out with only ONE means of escape!

The headline was purely a factual description.
Perhaps it's YOU who are trading on the cottage industry that anti-Semitism is becoming.

They highlight their religion by dressing and behaving the way they do.
There is a joke and a punch line somewhere in here.
Anyone other than me remember the 1970's video parody of the Beatles called "The Rutles"? In it, the manager of the band writes a book recounting how he first discovered them in a basement club, and instead of the "real" title of Brian Epsteins book (A Cellar Full of Noise), the parody book is called "A Cellar Full of Goys" !
