The biggest piece of crap that is in our area is at 53-28 63rd st. It's a 2-family home that is used as a 3, with one front door for upstairs, then in the rear, 2 more doors to separate apts. Now the city issued permits for them to dig the front yard up and extend the basement, which I am sure is going to be used for 2 more apts, making it a total of a 5 family-home. The city was notified about the excavation work and as seen on the DOB website, the inspector stated that he sees no construction. Meanwhile, when the inspector went there, there was a 50x50 tarp covering the front of the where they are digging and they are still digging with the tarp there. This one you have to see to believe." - anonymous
They actually DID receive a stop-work order on 8/22.

According to the photo, it is not a basement. A basement must have at least half of it above grade.
Thank you for pointing that important distinction out. This is a cellar.
The D.O.B. should put themselves to work and earn their salary. These type of conversions bring more crowdedness to the block and the neighborhood decreasing the amount of available on street parking, increasing the sewer usage, bringing more people to the area therefore taking away the suburban style of living.

The city should revoke the work permit since the engineer falsify the record and claiming it is a basement instead of a cellar.
What your special? This has been occurring every where - single and 2 family homes converted illegally and then the DOB fines them and then grants permits to complete the job. Thus my block has a 1/3 more people - mostly folks who are illegal, less parking spots, more dirt and garbage. Don't forget about crime that goes with this population - lots of burglaries - over-crowded schools. What so special about your block 0 oh your finding out DOB looks the other way?
