If you can't make it here...go to a shelter
From the Daily News:
It's not just tourists and wanna-be starlets flocking to New York these days.
The city has also become a popular new travel destination for the homeless — and taxpayers are now paying to send them back where they came from.
“People see New York as a land of opportunity, a place that’s welcoming,” said Homeless Services Commissioner Seth Diamond, noting that the city’s unique “right to shelter” law affords housing to everyone.
The number of out-of-town families flooding city shelters has jumped by 48% over the past four years, from a total of 1,390 in 2008 to 2,053 in 2011, records show.
More than 40 new families arrive every week from Puerto Rico, Florida and elsewhere — and head straight to packed intake centers where they wait to be placed in shelters.

Close to $1.5 million annually is a lot to spend on out of town guests that overstayed their welcome.

Families? Gee, I don't see any pictures of dad, right?
Hey, at least they're Americans (presumably).
Thinking this is a bloomberg plant to take the focus off of the fact that nothing but low wage jobs have been created in NYC under his "leadership" and that skyrocketing rents added to bottoming out wages equals record homelessness. I call BS on this story. No one travels thousands of miles to wind up in a NYC homeless shelter on purpose.
This country is a joke. I dont care anymore about the coming collapse. Bring in on!!!!!!!!!!

What a loser. Go live someplace else and do us all a favor.
Sure they can have free taxpayer supplied housing, as long as they don't drink 16 oz. Sodas or try and give their babies formulas.
$3000? My rent is a third of that!
This is absurd. Which one of you would voluntarily give up your current life to live in a crack, HIV, child molester, maniac infested city shelter with your wife and kids while you fall prey to every ex con, thief, junky, depraved psychopath in the city and share a confined space with them.
did you check the Salary /Health care/Pension benefit package of the agency administrators ? it is called "sharing YOUR wealth".
3000 a month is the quoted figure because the authorities put people up in hot sheet motels and the authorities will pay 100 dollars a day, hence 3000 a month
I think we need to set up some "camps" for these people to live in. Perhaps we can give them some work to do, as long as they are in there.
This is why the plutocrats and billionaires will always rule and they laugh at the middle class. Blame it on the poor, and the dumb middle class join in every time. Weapons of Mass Distraction.
