NYCHA shamed into installing cameras

From the Daily News:

It only took eight years and a swift kick from New York’s Hometown Newspaper, but security cameras are finally headed to 80 of the city’s most crime-ridden housing projects.

After the Daily News revealed the Housing Authority had been sitting on $42 million for security cameras, the agency finally announced Friday that installation starts in the fall. It will take until the end of next year for all of the cameras to be up and running, officials said.

The announcement came less than two hours after a reporter pressed NYCHA Chairman John Rhea for a timetable as he left his swank Harlem condo building, where a “virtual doorman” keeps residents safe.

“This is an incredibly important issue for our residents. These aren’t issues we have swept under the rug,” he said outside the upscale SoHo North development.

A Daily News investigation discovered that City Council members and other pols have earmarked tens of millions of dollars for cameras, but NYCHA hasn’t installed a single one — even as crime is on the rise. Some of the taxpayer money had been set aside as far back as 2004.

This is pathetic! Fire NYCHA management charged with deployment of these cameras - for not doing so. 2004? Remove the head of NYCHA and install interim head to oversee installation asap - what are we paying taxes for - to squander it? I spend my tax dollars wisely on my own - don't allow tax increase to government to spend your tax money.

Surveillance cameras are the first step in introducing the government into your personal life/homes/backyard and it really reinforces the ways for government controlling your life.

But then again these NYCHA developments are hot beds for crime.

John Rhea headed real estate for Lehman Brothers. He helped put them in the toilet, what do you think he's going to do to the NYCHA? Rhea was appointed by Bloomberg due to the amount of money he raised for Obama. A phone call got him the job. An added bonus is that none of the black NYCHA residents will organize or say a bad word against Rhea despite the fact he does nothing for them.

NYCHA BIG WIGS, think so highly of themselves. If you are not sitting in a office, supervising a team that you can abuse. Then you are seen as expendable. Upper management relish in being rude & vindictive to the workers

So where was some of this money going? NYCHA s pockets?

Then again NYCHA is government funded. If you don't like being watched for your criminal activities while on the dole, then get a damn job.

The FBI needs to investigate criminal doings by NYCHA.
It's becoming all too obvious whats going on.
