Time to pony up the dough
From the NY Post:
These hot-dog slingers are short a lot of bread.
Three outlaw street vendors have run up an eye-popping $959,000 in unpaid Health Department fines in the past decade, The Post has learned.
Getting away with the ruse is easy: After racking up the violations, the vendors applied for new permits using different names, Social Security numbers or addresses. That allowed them to evade the registration system, which requires that all summonses be settled before licenses can be renewed, every two years.
All three were recently called before administrative hearings and were found guilty, even though none of them showed up.

The food cart problem in New York City is much more then outstanding fines that never get paid. The hot dog cart of yesterday is not the food cart today. Knowing all the issues, why isn’t the Mayor and City Council changing the laws?
If i had a restaurant and some filthy cart/truck parked near my business.................it wouldn't last too long. What the fuk has happened to NYC?
Why don't the carts have health inspections with the restaurant ratings? If I see a cart with a B or C rating, I won't eat there.
New York City Administrative Code
Title 20a (Consumer Affairs)
Restrictions on the placement of pushcarts in certain prohibited areas
No pushcart shall be placed upon any sidewalk unless said sidewalk has at least a twelve foot clear pedestrian path to be measured from the boundary of any
Private property to any obstruction in or on the sidewalk, or if there
are no obstructions, to the curb. In no event shall any pushcart be
placed on any part of a sidewalk other than that which abuts the curb
Almost all food carts in Queens are operating illegally. If the illegal food cart on your block is in violation of this code call 311 and report it. If the cart is not moved call your local community board and elected official.Good luck
The food cart guy might be a nice guy but most if not all of them are operating illegally.
In the 1980's I worked as a stagehand in the theater district. Several times a week I'd head over to the Market diner or Jukebox Cafe on tenth ave.
The was an ancient store on 45th st between 9th and 10th that was used by the "busy bees" as they were called.
It was (may still be) on the south side if the street and had one bare light bulb on a cord from the ceiling. The walls were filthy black from about waist height down. It was too dark to see the floor but I can just imagine the vermin problem that building had.

What about the food store owners who pay rent, utilities and taxes? The city allows illegal food carts who are only paying $200.00 a year for a permit the freedom to operate mini catering facilities almost anywhere they want.
