Some business owners unhappy with rezoning
From the Daily News:
A city plan to rezone parts of Richmond Hill and Woodhaven is getting a thumbs down from some local business leaders who say it’s too restrictive.
“The new census data is showing the community has increased so why are we talking about down-zoning,” said Vishnu Mahadeo, president of the Richmond Hill Economic Development Corp. “I have signed petitions from people who oppose this. They did not know this would happen when they bought their property.”
The plan, which was released for public review this week, was designed to update the decades-old zoning and prevent over-development in the two communities. It also allows for larger construction in commercial corridors, including Jamaica and Atlantic avenues.
It includes 229 blocks and was reviewed by elected and civic leaders in both communities.
Mahadeo said he has asked city officials to change the plan to reflect concerns from merchants in Richmond Hill.
“The business community needs to see that a business strip is created along Atlantic Ave.,” he said. “The Planning Department wanted to just use a small piece for that.”

A business strip for whom?
At some point in the evolution of any urban area, zoning, which is a form of regulation, is a necessity. For those who doubt this, just google "Kowloon Walled City" and try to imagine living there.
The question is, what sort of place should Richmond Hill/Woodhaven be. Let's face it, in this city the fewer restrictions there are on development, the more chaotic the result.
Also, business owners, while I completely respect their endeavors, tend to cry the blues at any sort of change that impinges upon how they run things - no matter how minor. It's human nature. They're just looking after number 1.
However, there has to be a balance between their concerns and the concerns of the residents who live nearby. So down-zoning makes total sense in this area. It won't destroy business in the area - just shape it.
It's the 3 Stooges of Punjab!
Ram, Udham, and Babbu!
these men are SIHKS [sic]
What a dumb ass! You're trying to look like a smug know it all, and you can't even spell SIKHS correctly!

RE:#5 SIKHS are not muslims nor from the middle east.see" Sikhs in the western world" wikipedia
"British people are highly indebted and obliged to SIKHS for a long time. i know that within this century we needed their help twice ,in WWl and WWll, and they did help us very well. we are today able to live with honor, dignity, and independence. in the war, they fought and died for us wearing the turbins"
Sir Winston Churchill
"Six Battalions of the Sikh Regiment were raised in WWll and served at El Alamein,Burma,Italy,Iraq, winning 27 Battle Honors. in the last two world wars 83,000 turbin wearing Sikh soldiers were killed and 109,000 were wounded. they all died or were wounded for the freedom of Britain and the world, and during shellfire, with no other protection but the turbin, the SYMBOL OF THEIR FAITH "
Gen.Sir Frank Messervy
Who gives a hoot if they're Sikhs, Irish, or Martians .... they're Johnny-Come-Lately's who want to plunder the neighborhood for tweeding benefit and for that, they should be excluded from the process. Let the rezoning go thru.
your point will be taken more seriously , if you refrain from ridiculing your target in the comment .
I hope they are not from the Sikh temple on 101 Ave by 114 St. That place makes it impossible to navigate the street every Sunday. No consideration for their neighbors.
If they don't like it they can go back to their home countries where they can exploit their own neighbors. The IRS should audit all of them, then deport them back.

What if they're citizens?
Where's the rest of the 40 thieves?
Who wants to go back to India, the land of schmutz and schmattas?
Things are better here in Richmond Hill.
#11...no time to probe any SIKHS, because the I.R.S is presently sending audit requests to members and leaders of the TAX ENOUGH ALREADY (TEA PARTY) patriots ? at the request of 10 democrat politicians, led by U.S.Sen Chuck Schumer,NY.
how dare citizens expect less government spending and waste.
the thousands of NEW agents are being prepped to enforce the penalty to be paid by citizens, who opt out of government health care in 2014.
