Bloomberg healthy food policy reaches new stupidity level

From the NY Post:

The Bloomberg administration is now taking the term “food police” to new depths, blocking food donations to all government-run facilities that serve the city’s homeless.

In conjunction with a mayoral task force and the Health Department, the Department of Homeless Services recently started enforcing new nutritional rules for food served at city shelters. Since DHS can’t assess the nutritional content of donated food, shelters have to turn away good Samaritans.

DHS Commissioner Seth Diamond says the ban on food donations is consistent with Mayor Bloomberg’s emphasis on improving nutrition for all New Yorkers. A new interagency document controls what can be served at facilities — dictating serving sizes as well as salt, fat and calorie contents, plus fiber minimums and condiment recommendations.

Why??Because he couldn't figure a way to wrangle kickbacks out of it! He's a mean little (and I do mean little) man!

Just another example of the obscenely rich glaringly out of touch with the problems of the poor. Even if you have no home, sleep in the streets, are riddled with sores, beset by mental issues, HUNGRY -- Bloomberg is there to police your salt intake! I never heard anything so ridiculous. The man is deluded.

This probably has more to do with driving the homeless out of NYC than how healthy they eat.

This is a two-fer. It deprives liberty of people making donations as well as the liberty of recipients. It asserts that government doesn't merely assist in the alleviation of poverty, it controls all, even the smallest aspects of it.

...because eating out of a dumoster is healthier than eating something fatty or salty? I keep wondering who is asking for these things to be done by Mayor Bonaparte, because he is supposed to represent US, not his personal interests. Maybe we could move all the homeless people, foodbanks, and soupkitchens into some of those REALLY EXPENSIVE pedestrian plazas that everyone loves so much. And add some more bike lanes for the homeless to ride around on.

For those that say socialism a good system, take a close look. This is what a socialist economy looks like.
Once they control the food sources they will dictate what is grown and how much of it you can have. They, on the other hand (like Bloomie) get to have whatever they want.
We can already see that in General Motors. Unless the feds supported it (through rebates and marketing) they would never build the Volt. Government involvement in almost any field leads to failure and corruption.
