Smoking in cars carrying kids to be banned
From Forest Hills Patch:
State Sen. Toby Stavisky, D-Forest Hills, and state Assemblyman David Weprin, D-Little Neck, are calling for the state to prohibit smoking in vehicles in which minors are present and fine violators up to $100.
Under the bill, smoking in passenger cars, vans or trucks would be illegal when youths, ages 14 and below, are present.
“It is of upmost importance to protect our children, whose bodies are still developing and who often do not have a voice of their own,” Weprin said.
The legislation would extend the Clean Indoor Act, which was enacted to prevent smoking in city restaurants. In November, smoking was also banned at Long Island Rail Road platforms and stations.

It's about time !
Anon. 1 states: "It's about time!"
OK, so why not a law prohibiting parents from feeding kids cheeseburgers and fries? Childhood obesity is now pandemic.
I agree that you shouldn't smoke in the car with your kids but I DON'T AGREE that the government should enforce this!!!!!

Apples and oranges, meathead!!!
How about a REAL law prohibiting people from discarding their used butts onto the street without at least field stripping them?!

And your solution is...
So it's ok for parents to smoke in front of children at home, but not in the car? if not, will stavisky/weprin next sponsor a law to prohibit smoking at home? how to enforce?
And your solution is...

Another moron who thinks the government should take the place of common sense and parenting and cost the taxpayers more millions of dollars in implementing and regulating....
So what about my house? Can I smoke in my house if a minor is present? When will they start sending the stormtroopers door to door to find out if we are engaging in nefarious activity? Wake up folks.
But my kids always cause smoke to come out of my ears.
So you cant smoke with your 12 year old in the car, even if your 12 year old is off smoking with his friends when you aren't looking.
