"Why is an FDNY truck parked overnight in a private driveway? Is this legal? It's happening at 31st Drive and Astoria Blvd." - anonymous

Public employees who need to use these vehicles to travel on official business during off hours are allowed to do this, as long as they do not use the vehicle for private purposes. There is no cost to the taxpayer, and may even save the taxpayer money if the travel is closer to the employees home.
I'm guessing about as legal as NYPD/NYFD members who park their PRIVATE vehicles on sidewalks, at fire pumps, and in crosswalks.
Too bad they let them live in Suffolk, Rockland, and Hackensack now. They wouldn't have to park illegally if they took the subway to get to their stations.

WTF. They drive THESE? Maybe it would be cheaper for the public if they used the same transportation network the rest of us must use.
Don't forget the big DOT trucks in Maspeth that park overnight on residential streets -- not even in a private driveway. They take up parking spots that homeowners without driveways can't park in.
They should use the same transportation network as the rest of us?
This truck appears to have "fire safety" on it. The reason they need a pick up is so they can take illegal items away from the seen. It common to find people use illegal heaters in homes, construction sites, etc. Once items such as these as well as other items, they are taken away and used as evidence in court. The truck is also need so it can have access during winter weather and areas that are difficult to reach. There are many PD/FD cares that are taken home but can only be used for official use. Nit every one likes to use it. A friend of mine who worked for the PD at the time was REQUIRED to take a car home. He spent 1 1/2 hours betting to work in rush hour traffic. He would have preferred to be able to take the train and get to work easier. So it 's not always a welcome responsibility or benefit .
is there a agency that "really "investigates calls that commercial license vehicles are nightly parking in residential driveways ? vans, contruction trucks, etc.
the present night response at 311 for the D.O.B. is impotent.
So what's the point then? Is this truck really causing anyone a problem, or is is just some baby looking to complain? Compared to the typical queens crap we have to deal with, this seems like a non issue.
That is definitely not anywhere near 31st and astoria blvd. This photo looks a bit more like ft. totten where FDNY has a few residential looking old military buildings in use as offices.
If the employee lives in a congested area and could be renting the spot out, they're actually losing money on it.

Everyone of the issues on Queens Crap or anyplace else for that matter is a "non issue" to someone somewhere. Bottom line is, the truck is paid for and maintained by taxpayer dollar. If it is being taken home the Taxpayer has a right to know why and question its reason , not only its legality.

If you call 311 at night re commercial vans, your call is referred to the local precinct. In the case of the 104, they will say they came but the commercial vehicle was gone and close the ticket. In the meantime the vehicle is still there. Basically, you have as much luck as residents do in finding a parking spot on their residential streets.
Where do you sign up? FDNY headquarters. Be aware you might be required to risk your life to save your neighbor's, but you'll get a nice shiny red truck too.

You know what you are signing up for. Like 24 hours on equates to 48 off. So you switch with your co workers , work 24 hours straight and get to take 48 hours off to pursue your construction or whatever other job you may have. Nice gig if its what you choose, although not for everyone, does that mean you get carte blanche to do whatever it is you like? NOT!
Alfredo, your missing it. If you turn your head to one misuse of taxpayer dollars, even if you like the nyfd, then you have to turn your head to all of them. Is that where your at!

It could be a Firefighter or Fire Officer who is on Light Duty most likely an Officer because most officers have there own FDNY vehicles when on light duty.
You clueless morons, you'd b**ch about anything, probably even b**ch about the fire truck blocking your street as it puts out the fire at your house. The truck shown has AMBER lights, not red emergency lights, it belongs to Fleet Services which responds to non-fire details and breakdowns of department vehicles. It's at a private house because the employee is on-call, most likely a weekend when his shop is closed, and so he saves time by responding from home instead of driving to the shop to get the truck before responding. If a fire truck is broken down in the middle of the BQE, would you rather he left his truck at the shop and caused you an extra 30 minutes stuck in traffic? You'd probably b**ch about that too. Cut the FDNY some slack, they know what they're doing better than you do.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt

I've got a spare spot in front of my house. I'd like to get one of those to fill it. Where do I sign up?

You know there are a few of them in Bayside also.
Call it in to the FDNY with the address. If they know about it, then it's okay.
If they don't know about it, now they will.
That pic is NOT 31 Street and Astoria Blvd!

Someone's missing the point. It doesn't matter where in the city it is.

It's 31st Drive and Astoria Blvd, not Street. East Elmhurst.
31st Drive and Astoria Blvd ?
He was likely checking an old furnace or getting a happy ending.
I don't think there is a 31 Drive and Astoria Boulevard in East Elmhurst.
Google Maps shows there is such an intersection.

Too bad the people who protect you every day are allowed to live wherever they want? Are you kidding?
RIP Officer Peter Figoski.
Just one Long Islander who took a bullet and died for you.

No, it shouldn't mean you get to do whatever you want.
But a nice gig if you can get it?
343 says no.

HAHAHAHAHA... Hold on, let me catch my breath. Died for me? You coppers sure have a Christ complex.
But a nice gig if you can get it?
I believe it was
"Nice gig if its what YOU CHOOSE"
big difference in wording and it is what YOU are getting into
