City rewards Douglaston while crapping on College Point

From the Times Ledger:

The city will be digging up streets in College Point as part of a long-term plan to upgrade the area’s sewer system and prevent pollution from flowing into Flushing Bay and Flushing Creek. To make the construction more palatable, the city has offered to help restore coastal wetlands and put in a kayak launch, according to a plan from the city Department of Environmental Protection.

But a study from the department indicated those wetlands will be in Udalls Cove in Douglaston instead of the coastal areas of College Point, which flabbergasted James Cervino, a scientist and wetlands expert who is also the environmental adviser and a member of Community Board 7.

“I couldn’t believe that,” Cervino said during a presentation to the board’s Environmental Committee. “We need it more.”

The report listed several reasons why the city deemed the College Point coastline unworthy of money. Some parts are under the Whitestone Bridge and the water’s edge is populated with manufacturing buildings, difficult to access and not owned by the city, the report said.

“Therefore, the potential for great ecological benefits can be enhanced by a more robust cumulative wetland restoration that is proposed for a nearby site at Udalls Cove,” DEP said in a report.

Have you been to College Point lately? It's like taking a trip to the ghetto.

College Point is the asshole of the area...therefore it gets nothing!

Douglaston is where all the "swells" live...like Judge Golia, etc...
therefore they will get everything!

Is everything clearer now Doc Cervino?

C.P. is not one of the better Queens nabes to live in so it's getting the usual shaft from NYC.

There's no political juice in "The Point" to better things.

Now take Jamaica Estates; Malba; Robinwood; Douglas Manor; Forest Hills Gardens; so on and so forth:

Nabes like these get what they want at the expense of the more lowly spots like College Point, Corona, etc.

Definitely, C.P. is on the wrong side of the tracks.

North of 14th Ave. is the better part to live in.

But C.P. B'vd. has a ghetto look.

The Chinese don't even want to colonize College Point anymore.

It's gotten too Latino for them.

Increasing crime and Friday night bar fights don't fit in with their style.

We see this all the time in Staten Island. What the "swells" don't seem to understand is water, like air, knows no neighborhood boundaries. They should consider this in the context of extreme weather/flooding...

While I would love to see a kayak launch in douglaston, it should be noted that Douglaston has some of the most polluted water in New York City. Douglaston beach is closed almost the whole summer now due to its poor water quality. Does the city's plan contain anything that will improve this and allow the beach to be used?

Cervino = Cell-out

The man can no longer be trusted. He's in bed with Apelian and Vallone and the rest of the Flushing/Whitstone mob crew.
What a waste of potential he became.

his company is heavily involved in getting government money for such projects
