From CBS New York:
The MTA is facing some backlash for rejecting a plan that might have eased weekend disruptions on the 7 line.
Plenty of commuters have voiced their complaints regarding the fact that the 7 Train will be screeching to a halt every week through April.
“Most of my friends live in Manhattan, so it’s making me spend more in cab fare to get in and out of the city. The next 11 weekends I have plans almost every weekend in Manhattan, so it’s going to cost me a lot more money, or a lot more time to get in,” Catherine Hart, of Long Island City, told CBS 2′s Jessica Schneider.
Queens City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer decided to take action and said he got approval to use $250,000 in city funds to pay for a shuttle bus from Vernon Boulevard Station to Grand Central.
“I said let’s talk about alternatives. Let’s think out of the box. The community has been asking for a shuttle bus service,” he told Schneider.
However, the MTA said no thanks and came up with its own plan.
Some people, however, do agree with the MTA. They wonder if it’s worth it to spend $250,000 in tax payer dollars for a non-essential shuttle bus to Grand Central.

Now wonder our community is getting starved. Everything is going to that waterfront.
Attention, money .. everything.
Big mistake to forget the neighborhood Jimmy!
"Will there be accommodations made for my shitzu-huahua?"
The folks can easily walk to Ely Ave (Citicorp) or Queens Plaza to catch alternative trains to the city. No biggie. If a shuttle is needed for the elderly then it should only go to the above not Grand Central.
Anon No. 3:
That's what the shuttle is doing.
Do you folks really think Van Bramer got $250,000 for a shuttle to Manhattan from city funds? How? It's not budget time and there's no non profit assigned this discretionary funding. Jinmy Van Liar...
So it's all about Jimmy after all.
Great to have the shuttle for the elderly so he can schedule it at the senior center and make the little trustafarians walk a few blocks and burn off the extra extra lattes.
Wait, Jimmy has nothing for the St Mary Senior center. They are not wealthy investors in real estate that make campaign donations in exchange for channeling city resources to the waterfront.
Sorry.
Disenfranchise, develop, displace.
Ya see folks...even the landmarked district wussies have got it rough in The Gardens!
Yes indeed, "99%"...the developers own their little boy, Councilman Jimmy!
Welcome to Queens you freakin morons.
Just wait till all the waterfront is developed and they move on to Flushing and SE Queens.
Then you know what we are putting up with as a matter of course.

But then their marvy new LIC won't be so, "convenient, and just minutes to Manhattan" like they were promised. Then, they will be stuck in Queens, and have to endure the VIBRANT! DIVERSE! hordes that Queens is so famous for nowdays.
Here's a question I'm sure Jimmy won't answer... If the MTA won't take the money for this service, why not give it to a nonprofit to provide the service. It doesn't have to be either/or. The answer is because the money is fake.
Van bummer
Change to the N at Queensboro, change for the 4 at Lex, GC next stop, Bob's yer uncle.
Why the heck dies cost a quarter mil for a shuttle???!
Why the heck dies cost a quarter mil for a shuttle???!

The same reason putting in a passel of computer terminals in the library takes a million plus.
Next question.
