Crowley, Ackerman stockpiling campaign cash

From the Daily News:

New York Democrats, shaken by a GOP win in the heart of New York City, are hustling to gobble up the gold, according to the latest campaign filings.

Queens Democratic Party leader Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-Queens) took in $237,571 in the third quarter to amass a war chest of $933,462, according to the latest filings.

Crowley took a lot of the heat for picking a losing candidate, David Weprin, to run for Anthony Weiner's 9th Congressional District seat, which went to Republican Bob Turner.

Before the Turner win, Weiner's old seat was considered vulnerable to elimination in Albany's redistricting plan.

Now, Republicans want to hold on to a New York City district, and Turner himself said he would run for reelection - somewhere - if his seat vanishes.

Gary Ackerman (D-Queens), whose seat Turner might be eying, pulled in only $48,585 this quarter, but still had a campaign chest of $596,721.

Turner, for his part, finished the election with $26,681 left in the kitty.

"Twenty-six thousand against half a million? Good luck with that," a Democratic strategist said.

With redistricting plans still up in the air, Crowley was stockpiling cash for his own reelection efforts, not necessarily to help other Queens Democrats, sources said.

"Raising money is the equivalent of saying 'You want a piece of me? Come and try,' " said one Democratic operative.

The Crowley camp declined to comment.

The republicans will still try to kill that seat. They know this was a confluence of scandal, aging populace-the Israel problem and bad economy.

I know there are some old folks who want to see this as some gop renaissance, but take a hard look at the results of all the other races that day. Democrats won, often by wide margins...Even in formerly republican districts.

One, or two election cycles and it'll be dem again. That is why the seat will get 86'ed.

It's high time that Ackerman's pipeline of laundered overseas Oriental campaign contribution cash gets cut!

But who will be the one to do it?

Not anyone with balls that I can see, since Gary has been spreading a lot of that converted Yuan around federal investigatve offices for years.

His associates at the "Queens Tribune", most likely, aid and abet his efforts.

"Massagee, massagee, massagee"!

Nussbaum....aye, there's the rub!

Akerman will hold his seat as long as there are enough "alta kakka" (old shit) Jewish supporters to vote for their little "boychik".

Both he and his electorate are aging rapidly....and soon to be gone.

But, Caevet emptor:

There is no doubt that some aspiring political understudy is waiting in the wings to take up Hackerman's place after he drops into Hell.

I hope Turner will keep his seat and instead Crowley should lose his. But if not and Turner does lose his district then he should make a run at Rep Crowley - who is forever elsewhere.

Ackerman, Crowley, Shumer, and all the other "liberal" pols are strangely silent about Occupy wall Street. Why aren't they publicly supporting that movement?

I agree with Anonymous#1's assessment but Weprin's failure to get elected has made some of these other electeds nervous whatever the underlying cause.

It's something I have posted here before: The one thing politicians fear the most is losing their seats and we still have to power to take that away from them. If the voters are willing to break out of party line voting and will vote out incumbents who displease them or after two terms, you will get a more responsive and open elected official.

I don't believe this is a panacea for all our ills but it may go a long way to fixing some of the major problems we have with our political establishmnet.

I used to give higher odds that Velazquez (NY-12 Brooklyn / Manhattan / Queens) would lose her district, but with Turner in, it makes sense that they eliminate NY-9 (Brooklyn / Queens), and of course he can choose to run anywhere in New York.

9th Congressional District race spending:
Dem Weprin: $1,534,000
Rep Turner: $564,000

Please tell me more about luck.

Why doesn't Crowley run for a seat in Washington DC? Since he lives there and not in the distict he represents, it just makes sense. Queens would be happy to be rid of him.

The republicans will choose to kill Turner's seat. This forces Turner to run against Crowley. If he wins then the GOP knocks off Crowley and gets a Republican district. If he loses then the GOP still gets to save a solid red district upstate and eliminate a blue district.

in the 2010 ,in the Halloran vs. Kim campaign for CM. Kim"s campaign donations (99.5 % from outside the district and China ) amounted to almost triple that of Halloran.
all of Halloran's money came from the council district.

why would the world wide lib/progressive/socialist movement be so concerned over this election?

Halloran still won. the socialist/democrat voters were outnumbered by the TEA Party Patriots in the district.

i am familiar with the Tea Party Patriots and they cannot be compared in any way to the OWS anarcho -socialists.

So the debate here is which machine has more money than the other or what districts go D or R? Not what the candidate stands for or whether they will oppose the status quo of the machine?

The local politicians' meat-puppets are working overtime.

Anon No. 12:

I don't think that anyone beyond the Borough of Queens is concerned about Dan Halloran's electoral future aside from the "three sanitation workers."

That's "Honest Joe" Crowley.

Three Vallones? I'll give you that.

Vote out all incumbents, vote outside all party lines, democrat or republican they are all tied into dirty laundered money and could care less about your community. Write in your vote next election, choose your own candidate.

Anonymous said...

How many Queens politicians are owned by lobbyists! For example, the Vallones own a lobbying firm, Evan Stavisky, a District Leader and Senator Toby Stavisky's son, owns a lobbying firm and sells Democratic endorsements, and Ed Braunstein's lobbyist uncle, Brian Meara, bought his idiot nephew the Assembly seat to be a marketing tool for his firm.

You all voted for these people. It's not like they've run unopposed. Blame yourselves.

People still vote party lines and not for the individual?

I agree and let's send useless Marge Markey there too! What a dim light-bulb she is!
