Bill to reduce parking space saving
From the Forum:
With parking a precious commodity throughout the city, it has become customary for residents in some neighborhoods to save parking spots in front of or near their houses with traffic cones or garbage cans. Removing those items and parking in the spot often leads to retribution—slashed tires or smashed windows.
There is a bill in the City Council that aims to mitigate the issue. Introduced by Council Members Elizabeth Crowley (D-Middle Village) and Letitia James (D-Brooklyn), the proposed law would allow the city to remove garbage cans—the most common method to save spots—left on public streets.
According to Lydon Sleeper, chief of staff for Crowley, the bill was introduced after witnessing problems around the 104th Precinct. Although there are fines for saving spots, he noted, “People were saving spots that weren’t necessarily in front of their house.” This can lead to homeowners receiving tickets for saving a spot, when it was actually their neighbor who planted the garbage cans in front of the house.
Crowley has also looked at different ways to register garbage cans so there is greater accountability to ticket individuals saving spots.

Register garbage cans--"burp" has this woman gone nuts ?
Forget garbage cans how about registering all these law breaking terrorist bicycle people plowing people down and causing deadly accidents.
There is already an administrative code,a VTL code and i believe a nyc traffic regulation prohibiting this..............
Great now the city will ticket you for the wind blowing your can into the street, or for lazy garbage men just leaving the can in the street.
I agree spots in front of your home cannot be reserved or elesewhere for that matter. Police can and should remove cans and cones and visit homeowner anyway. If someone is seen repeatedly by the police putting out cones then they should be heavily fined.
One of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard is that renters should not have as much right to park in front of a home as the homeowner does and they should respect "their" spots. If parking close to your property is a priority for you, then buy a house with a garage.
I'm no fan of Dizzy Lizzie, but at least she is TRYING to address the issue.
who is going to enforce i live in maspeth on the plateau i rarely see a patrol car in the area let alone see them get out of there car and move a garbage can that is reserving a spot and if you call about something they never show up , i have called about suspicious people looking into homes after 3 hours no patrol car showed up so i called the precint and they said that the patrol car was there over 2 hours ago so i went to the security cameras i have and watched and they never ever drove by the just lied when they do show up they will not take a report cause they say they are to busy they are a joke . and crowley wants them to enforce savings spots thats a good laugh they dont even come when a suspicious person is called in.
Dizzy Lizzy trying to solve the stupidest issues and ignoring the important ones. Vote against all machine candidates.
It's a sad commentary on our priorities that selfish, law-breaking drivers are motivating our City.
Oh so now us taxpayers have to pay for the city to do this? I move the cans myself and it doesn't cost me a dime!
Read Mr. Crapper's piece & ask me again why I ran from NYC upon retirement. Long live Israel! Long live Queens Crapper! Death to the Palestinians!
"I live in Maspeth on the plateau I rarely see a patrol car in the area"

It’s always been this way as far back as the early 70's.
The 104 PCT is actually Queens un-official retirement home. Cars related to life and death situations via the 911s county wide frequencies or from 104s dispatch desk to protect Jennifer Aniston filming.
No joke!
The 104 had over 7 cars (14+cops) at her sides making overtime on Elliot ave. It must have totaled 1000 man hours or the cost of a new patrol car YET it only cost the movie production $260 a day for a location and commercial photography permit.
These movie people have there own kitchen buses and cooks, movie shoots do NOTHING for local business but F_ them up. This jackass Mayor is clueless
I won’t even go into that heap of garbage Bruce Willis and Tracey Morgan shot. It was originally titled "2 Dicks" (as in 2 Dick Tracey's) then "2 Cops" and changed again to "Top Cops"
Worst acting, Direction & Cinematogphy in NYC's history.
3 days of hell, 4 Chapman cranes and a 20 ton cherry picker to setup a 40 second stunt scene in a cematary
If parking close to your property is a priority for you, then buy a house with a garage.

Whats worse crappy is the people who DO buy a home with a garage, then use that garage for everything BUT parking a car. Rental apartment, junk storage, or, like my fresh-off-the-boat neighbors, an outdoor kitchen.
Thank you for posting the name of the politicians who are imposing this ridiculous law so I don't vote for them come re-election. Focus on the real issues in Queens which has changed for the worse esp.Woodhaven/Oz.Pk. Send inspectors to homes & fine the homeowners (mostly) absentee landlords who are renting illegal basements, summons the tenants who blast music till 6am,the pitbulls which people are walking without a leash, get the drugs off the street....if a homeowner puts a garbage can in front of their home it doesn't bother me. Back in the day you respected their property-which they do pay tax on & Yes by law they have to clean the street- from their curb to 8 inches into the street. Someone mentioned there should be some privilege for a SENIOR who does this that does not have a garage-they can't walk far & carry their groceries-so they should be the exception to the rule. This is just another ploy for the city to make money. Focus on the real issues!
