Aqueduct opening was mobbed
From the
Daily News:
The Aqueduct racino opened Friday to a capacity crowd - and grumbling from would-be gamblers who had to wait hours to get inside.
The operators said 15,000 were inside by late afternoon and with 5,000 on line outside, they were suggesting that people postpone their first visit to the new Queens hot spot.
"I'm very disappointed," said Dolores Daniels, 65, a retired clerical worker from Rockaway Beach who decided to leave.
"They want us to stand in the cold for three hours? I couldn't even get in to use the bathroom."
Those who did get in, charging through the doors at 1 p.m. after a ribbon-cutting, made for the 2,280 slot machines.

Looks like these gamblers have little money in the bank.
Located in a section of Queens where foreclosures are at record levels, this racino will further ravage the lives of many who take no financial responsibility. Bad news New York. This will never be a destination point for out of towers either.
Just what we need in the middle of Queens, an 'idiot tax' center.
just like the 2 airports, a major league baseball stadium, world class tennis stadium, etc
Guess which boro never sees the benefit of the millions of tax revenue generated from all of these sites????
That's right
Idiot Tax Central
Where even the horses have better sense!
Probably in more than one definition of "mobbed."
The place is beautiful, I hope it stays that way.

Wanna bet?
Fools and their money will always soon be parted.
Wait till the muggings on the A train start to kick in. The city will be forced to add police. A few violent crimes will scare bettors away.. This is not a world class venue...high end tourists will stay away and continue on their trips to Vegas instead.
Aqueduct: the working man's Vegas.
Anyone see Back to the Future: Part 2?
This place should just but a "Biff's" sign out front.
Amazing! This received zero press as far as I could tell. Had no idea this was happening so soon. I predict the draw radius for this nonsense extends along the belt parkway and southern state from Brooklyn to Rockville Center.
The casinos are too far away. The money saved on gas goes into the slots...............
Heck of a lot easier to get to than Empire City.
Safe? Probably not.
Good neightborhood? Nope.
Good for the surrounding community? No way.
Am I excited to go check it out? Absolutely!
umm, i see this turning into a dump real soon.
Watch Resorts sell this baby off in a few years....then it will become another OTB run amuck.
It beats busing the idiots to AC where they are returned anyway after their pockets are emptied. Keep the cash/tax revenues in NY. It took 30 years for NYS to figure it out?
Desperation is a growth industry.
