From the Daily News:
Room-sized storage pods are invading the driveways of eastern Queens homes - and neighbors are raging against the unsightly containers that are overstaying their welcome.
Hollis Hills Civic Association members have complained to the city about the hulking white boxes from a company called Pods, typically used for storage during renovations or a move.
Though it is illegal to have them in the front yards of homes, some have nevertheless become permanent fixtures, locals said.
Homeowners with the pods can be ticketed for violating zoning codes, said city Department of Buildings spokeswoman Ryan Fitzgibbon. But it's rare the agency gets complaints, she said.
That's probably because only about 200 boxes have been rented in Queens, a company official said. About 90% of them are kept in a company storage facility. Pods rent for $100 to $200 a month.

These are designed to be temporary structures during construction.
Are you sure that these are not being rented out to "undocumented aliens" as living quarters?
So. have they been or will these pods referred to be ticketed?

"Contrary to the images of Chinese boat people and Central American day laborers that dominate the public perception of New York State's illegal immigrants, the three major groups are from Ecuador, Italy and Poland. The first complete analysis of undocumented immigrants, released yesterday by the City Planning Department, estimates that the illegal population in New York State is the second largest in the country, after California's."
What exactly is the point you were trying to make here? That Chinese and Mexicans don't make up the majority of illegals these days? That article you cited is almost 20 years old, before NAFTA, and if the illegals weren't Hispanic and Asians these days why was there such a big push to get them counted during the census?
And twenty years ago, would you admit it was true? While Peter King got McCain to bring in the Illegals, they defeated Prescott and Padavan.
Funny, who mentioned race in this post? None of the commenters and I certainly didn't in the post.
This is about people leaving storage containers on their lawns for months, which is a zoning violation.
Why can't you people ever stay on topic?
Italians haven't immigrated to this country in 40 years. There's no reason to leave western Europe to come to this shithole.
They know how to live right over there.
Ugly damned things. I see one of these pods parked in a driveway on 71 Avenue off of Metropolitan. I assumed that it was there so that the homeowners could either, clean, renovate or move. It's been there for at least two years now, though. I guess that it's now functioning as a backyard shed once did.
