Pols still pushing Rockaway wind farm

From the Daily News:

Clean power could come to New York City in the form of a wind farm off the coast of the Rockaways - if the governor acts fast.

The $2 billion- 4 billion project would generate hundreds, if not thousands, of new jobs and up to 700 megawatts of power, utility officials said.

Elected officials are concerned that developers will build wind farms elsewhere if New York doesn't issue a request for proposals by early next year.

"If New York does not go forward at an accelerated pace, then the jobs are going to go to other states," said Assemblyman Andrew Hevesi (D-Forest Hills), chairman of the Assembly's renewable energy subcommittee.

He sent a letter expressing his concerns - signed by more than 40 fellow Assembly members - to Gov. Cuomo this month.

"There's only a certain number of developers, and they're going to have to decide where they're going to get the best bang for their buck," Hevesi said.

The New York Power Authority, along with Con Edison and the Long Island Power Authority, filed an application last Thursday with the federal government to lease ocean space for the plant. It would be located at least 13 miles off- shore.

An official with the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement said yesterday it's unclear when a decision will be made.

So when the wind stops, as it does often (most nights) where do you get electricity ?

The maintenance on the devices make the savings nil.Ask the folks in Massachusetts.............

The Port Authority is involved in this project - enough said - don't approve it!

The best location for a wind farm is city hall!

How many megawatts of power could Chrissy Quinn generate by her lonesome?

And those gas bags we call council members could light up a small town!

multimillionaire Boone Pickens spent $1.5 billion to develop On Shore Windmill Energy and has stopped his project. he said that this alternate energy is not cost effective, at this time . Offshore is double the cost of Onshore energy. that you will pay.

he is for natural gas . which the public can afford.

China imports U.S. coal(the cheapest source of energy)to produce solar panels that undersell that of U.S.solar panel companies. while our obama financed ones go bankrupt???????

These projects always involve a taxpayer subsidy, political influence, and tremendous waste. No!

Andrew Hevesi is my representative, and a goddam good one. Mr. "FlushingRepresenter" I voted him into office, and if you have a problem with that you can polish my knob.

Gee, Mr Conservative, the last time you mentioned this, you omitted the "at this time" until and got called on it.

It's always better to tell the whole truth..or shut up.

Gee, Mr Conservative, the last time you mentioned this, you omitted the "at this time" until and got called on it. YES you forgot these 3 superduper IMPORTANT words- AT THIS TIME! That negates your whole argumint about alterneative energy being inefficient and needing lost of gubbermint subsidies and means alternative energy really is efficieint because I said so and I dont live in reality. Solyndra ONLY needed $500 million of government tax dollars to go brankrupt with! I won and you lost because I am Commubot 3000, super geneius!!

It's always better to tell the whole truth which means including words that dont alter the facts ..or shut up.
Commubot 3000 has SPOKEN!

re:COMMUBUTT ... bob grant is right , liberals are sickos and you have proven him correct....

add $35 Million to your low number of taxpayer dollars stolen by an obama praised green producing fraud.

do not mimic that "poor" multimillionaire socialist, Michael Moore .

he belongs on "The Biggest Loser".

quick, hurry up,don't hesitate,do not procrastinate, sign and read later,do not research the outrageous high

price of wind energy to the consumer.

As opposed to paying outrageous costs to the oil company monopolies. What they cannot control they try to destroy.

And, by the way, concerning the "socialist" stuff - who had a worse environmental record than the Soviet Union?

the government of Spain (heavily into wind mill energy)
has curtailed it because it was not economical and increased Spain's unemployment . see fox news documentary ,Brett Baer, on wind mill energy negatives to a country.

Yeah, like Fox News is "Fair and Balanced." People aided and abetted with the oil companies are going to do everything that they can to find fault with things like windmills and solar power. Their profits depend on a lack of alternate sources of energy.

is not Al Gore a major stock holder in Occidental Oil located in,(a Joe Stalin COMMUNIST/ SOCIALIST NATION) ?

his father ,a dem. senator, owned this bad bad bad oil stock along with that self admitted communist, Armand Hammer.

are these the people who are aiding and abetting, and making profits from undermining wind and solar energy ? Al's money is heavily invested in the GREEN DREAM.

Klink Cannoli said...

It's not about the green power. It's all about the money.

Solar and wind was tried and died in the 70s during the Arab oil embargo.

It's not only about the cost of maintenance or the initial deployment expense. The hard science is that for every watt you collect versus the work that can be performed by that energy source, solar nor wind can challenge the efficiency of fossil fuel, natural gas or moving water.

The key concept here is "energy conversion efficiency."

No, I'm sorry. The key concept here is really "propaganda." ;@/

Anon No. 17:

And most of the money that goes into criticizing solar and wind energy programs comes from people who invest in other kinds of enery.

Armand Hammer has been dead for decades. He's irrelevant.

Anonymous said...

how long has AL GORE been dead ? Are not A.Hammer's (COMMUNIST ) relatives prospering from the Occidental Oil dividends ?

Capitalism rocks.....

Anonymous said...

Who says Al Gore is making that money? Can you provide the information from a source that is not a right-wing source of misinformation?

Are Armand Hammer's family Communists? In any case, from all of the money he made he was more of a capitalist than any of us.

Doing good things with your money that benefits a lot of people rocks as well.
