This is a problem all over Queens. The catch basins not being clean ARE a big part of the problem. Once they cleaned them out by Maurice Avenue, the flooding ceased. And we have had worse rain this year than in 2007 when it was at its worst.
Did we really expect our antiquated sewage system to be able to handle all this stormwater and all the waste coming from the illegal units overburdening the system?

The readers of this site don't seem to be too sympathetic to the foreign/immigrant communities of Queens, at least from what I can tell from the comments. I'm sure most of the readers here would never buy a house in that neighborhood, not that I blame them.
This definitely seems like an isolated problem, it is not typical of the conditions we see in general, even during the heaviest of rains. I'm not sure how blaming it on illegal units makes any sense.

All communities in Queens have a segment of recent immigrants as well as some here for generations.

Too much water and not enough capacity to handle it causes flooding. That's why illegal units are mostly to blame.

water is not supposed to be coming up from manholes. something is definitely wrong. now that you have TV coverage, you might get somewhere.
