NYS residents leaving in droves

From the NY Times:

The tally of people New York has lost to other states since 2000 is the highest it has been in three decades, but unlike the situation in the 1970s, the surplus of births over deaths has kept the population from declining.

Over all, it rose to 19.4 million from 18.9 million, according to the 2010 census.

An analysis of census data by the Empire Center for New York State Policy at the Manhattan Institute found that in the latest decade, New York gained 895,150 immigrants from abroad. The number people who left for other states outnumbered the number who arrived from other states by more than 1.5 million; it is the second consecutive decade in which domestic migration loss was the highest of any state as a percentage of population. All in all, the population declined by 675,00 as a result of migration since 2000.

Twenty other states, mostly in the Northeast and Midwest, lost more residents than they gained to domestic migration. Combining domestic and foreign migration, New York — with the third highest rate of loss — was one of 13 states that suffered a net loss.

Counting down the days to retirement and I'm no longer tied to this shithole of a city and state. Most of my friends were smart enough to have already fled.

Really? Really? Crap hole? Shit hole? Those are very strong words and sentiments. Where exactly is the nirvana paradise you plan to go to? The south? Florida? The west coast? When was the last time you were in those places? They are decimated with abandoned real estate and 12% unemployment. No thanks. I'm fine here.

This is exactly what Bloomberg wants. The city keeps raising taxes, water fees, transportation and rent control. He wants the middle class to move out. All that will be left will be the Rich people and the poor people. He can control them and use them as bus boys, house cleaners and other service jobs. Sounds like he's right on track. I know so many people who are packing up and moving to cheaper states that have a better quality of life. No overcrowding, no overdevelopment, better schools and education, cheaper utilities and lower taxes.

I retired a few years ago & I was more than relieved to leave NYC for good. Too much noise, too much crime, etc. I have never considered returning to live there. I do enjoy NYC as a tourist now & I visit from time to time. To the young people who are considering leaving I would advise you to check your job options first but don't be discouraged by the NYC uber alles set. There are 49 other states and places where people say good morning to you on the streets. After Obama is finished and the economy is viable again take the plunge! Long live Queens Crapper! Death to the tyrant of Syria! Death to the Palestinians! Long live Israel!

Hahahahah I been to all of them. Those people freeze their asses off 300 days year and spend what eve they save on heating oil and gasoline. Alcoholism runs ramped worse then anywhere I seen.
Any dam thing you need to due requires a 20 minute gas guzzling car ride up and down hills.
Most all the food is HORRIBLE in shopping plazas, strip malls.
Don't get sick or have a heart attack because its guaranteed death

Id live the rest of my life in Jackson heights before moving to Vermont, The lakes or Canada.

Southold is good, All Republican conservatives (always has been) and looks the same as it was in 1950.

You will be back. They always come back.

The charm of watching paint dry and buckwheat ripen gets a little tiring after a while.

Besides when the shit hits the fan the rest of the country - world for that matter - will be a fairly grim place.

You'll see.

Yep, When I used to go on tour Id literally want to kiss the ground when I get off the Airplane coming from Los Angeles or any of those yahoo shitholes where they roll the streets up 6PM.
If your born & raised in Brooklyn Queens and remember: salty pretzels in a brown paper bag, wax lips, fake candy cigarettes that actually smoked when you blew into them, Mary Janes, Bonomo's Turkish taffy, wax lips, little wax bottles of syrup in a 6 pack, buying bottle rockets, smoke bombs & snakes at the corner candy store, elevated train platforms that were once wide open, used to a 5 minute "walk" to get a slice of pizza or lemon ice.
Then you pretty much belong to the city. There is no way out of it.

One may as well be dead trying to live and adapt to places like Tulsa or Londonderry
In Tulsa you cant even get a glass of wine in an Italian restaurant after 6PM--its banned and a felony to serve it.
6PM the place becomes ghostly empty streets with the occasional blinking strip joint light every mile or so---Pure hell IMHO.
