From the Queens Chronicle:
Jackie Kozody has worked at the Long Island City Pathmark for 14 years.
She would like to continue to do so, but said she and her coworkers have been on edge since December when A&P, or the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., filed for bankruptcy.
A&P owns 15 supermarkets in Queens under the Pathmark and Waldbaum’s brands, and a total of 58 in New York City under various names including 16 Food Emporium stores in Manhattan.
Kozody manages customer service, cashiers, bookkeepers and customer complaints in a store with more than 100 employees.
“The fear is not having a job, that at any moment the store could close,” she said, “that at any moment the store is going under or being sold to someone we don’t know. There’s a lot of tension, worrying about how we would make ends meet or standing in the unemployment line.”
Chapter 11 bankruptcy rules allow A&P, the 151-year-old grocery chain, to be protected from its creditors while it reorganizes under a new management team.

Is this the Pathmark on 43rd Street & Northern BLVD?? If yes, then that is not 'LIC' (Long Island City) but 100% in Woodside. Just like the Pathmark off the Linden Place exit of the Whitestone Expressway is 100% in Flushing and not anywhere near "Whitestone".
And I hate to say it but in 2011 no ones job is secure. You lose a job you bust your butt to find another one. No one has the same job for life anymore and retail jobs in NYC are a dime a dozen anyway
the word was that only blacks are hired at that Pathmark. that it's a black controlled store and the blacks make problems for any white workers. get them fired fast.
see any white Americans working there?
there was a supermarket on Roosevelt Avenue and about 51st Street. Was it Grand Union?
It was closed , now there's a Rite Aid fully staffed by self important, self involved fascistic South American males.General Pinochet would be so proud of them!
the pharmacy workers are all Phillapino. or South East Asian.
If Pathmark closes where will all the residents of the Woodside Houses spend their foodstamps?
who's crying now?
Woodside actually doesn't start until you cross 51st Street.
The Pathmark at Linden Place is revolting and the three Waldbaum's on Francis Lewis (at 35th Ave., 46th Ave. and the LIE) are filthy, stocked with only the most processed, unhealthy foods available, and run by cretins.
They're often out of organic milk - one of the few organic staples to be found in our shitty Queens supermarkets.
I know it's a fantasy but wouldn't it be heaven if they were all replaced by Fairways and Trader Joe's? Both offer reasonably-priced organic and locally-grown healthy food.
Even Stop 'n Shop is gourmet compared to these crummy stores.
What is it about Flooshing that attracts only third-rate stores? Could it be the people??? LOL!
Actually, Bayside and Whitestone aren't any better.
If Woodside starts at 51st Street, why do the Woodside Houses start at 49th Street?
Try Neils Natural Market for organic milk. He always has it in stock.
Woodside houses is just a name. Why is Bayside Ave in Flushing, and Flushing Ave in Maspeth?
Who is on first?
Hey Auntie I think I've seen you with your clip board in the store. Send me your address so I can mail you your official armband and pillowcase hood. How many Jews and Hindu were there?
Geesh, I haven't even lived in Queens that long and know that technically LIC covers much of western Queens including Astoria, Woodside, Sunnyside and the 'city' of Long Island City - makes me wonder if some of the commenters here are even from Queens in the first place.
Also, perhaps Auntie Invasion needs new glasses because I have seen plenty of 'white' people at the Pathmark on Northern Blvd.
I will say this, much of western Queens in plagued by dirty supermarkets/grocery stores - even so I certainly hope this Pathmark does not close - the competition between it and Stop and Shop seem to keep food prices reasonable.
Woodside was never part of LIC.
Crapper -
Was Woodside part of the 1st Ward (LIC) or the 3rd Ward (Flushing) back in the day when Queens was divided into five wards?
Just asking - I don't know the answer.
It was part of Newtown. See map here. Here's LIC for comparison. Bowery Bay Road is today's 51st Street.
Thanks, Crapper.
Ergo, the Woodside House are not in Woodside but rather in LIC. Who named them the Woodside Houses?
I believe it was Robert Moses.
According to the map linked below, Woodside is part of Long Island City
quote from link:
"On this map, areas 1 and 2 form Long Island City and its many neighborhoods. "
http://queens.about.com/od/gettingaround/ss/lic_map.htm
That's a map of community board districts. It does not say Woodside is part of LIC, it says Woodside is part of CB2.
Read the actual article that accompanies it and they don't include Woodside.
recently heard this pathmark is closing in about a month from this post
The closing specials start at 9am tomorrow, Friday, April 20th.
Pathmark was filthy, outdated and poorly run. Good ,bring a good shoprite in
