From the Daily News:
For years it has been called "the dash controversy" - a hyphen in Queens addresses that confuses some and pleases others.
For some borough residents it is only a matter of getting used to a dash in an address number and sometimes they find it more useful. But for others, especially those new to Queens, the dash makes addresses much longer and complicated.
"It's confusing, especially for transplants," said Nancy Arjara-Spence, 38, who grew up in the Bronx and moved four years ago to Queens. "If you were not born and raised here, you still have trouble understanding the address."
I think the Bronx should keep its mentally deficient residents from crossing over the bridge...

She already has a dash in her name. This is no joke, people.
Or is her name hyphenated? Can't stress the seriousness of the 'trouble undrstanding' enough.
Agree....don't cross the bridge!
WTF is just a hyphen not a name change... Holy Crap!
Maspeth Mom says....
Many times on Map Quest I must remove the dash in order to get correct driections.
no it is not :)
Must have been a slow news day at Daily News. But it was a nice opportunity for a history lesson.
The dashes add clarity/
To the labyrinthine lack/
Of numerical pattern/
New York's quiet Borough/
The majority of the time when I order things from the internet, they always remove the dash when I put in my address. I guess it's a common thing but I always include the dash in my address.
Love it or Leave it! LOL
Some times when you order things online you have to remove the dash.
If a restuarant is in Queens is it a dine and dash?
live with it! Queens is unique!
I hate that fedex/ups don't use the dash and annoy us queens residents by having to remove it. F these companies - they should upgrade their systems and not try to modify our addresses.
Anyone too stupid to understand how the system works shouldn't come to queens.
Evan Stavisky doesn't have a dash in his address because he lives in Rockland County!
I thought Stavisky lived in the bottom ring of Hell, right next to the hole under Lucifer's ass where Dante and Virgil slipped through.
Oh lets not get too self-righteous about this, the Queens block and street "system" is a mess.
Look at Q-Blvd you have 39th street and next up 39th Place and so-on
Up on Astoria blvd we go from 49th street to 70th st in one block.
I've been out to Queens on business for 22 years now, and yeah, I get it -sort of, but it is still a kludge and mess.
22 years and you dont get it! Please move back to New Jesey. The system was devised by a genius, but it doesnt take one to understand it.
I've lived in Queens my entire life and I've never encountered anyone new to the area who had a problem understanding the dash in my address.
22 years and you dont get it! Please move back to New Jesey.
No thanks, I live in Manhattan -where most of the street grid makes sense..excluding Greenwich Village.
Go ahead - take the dash out. Then 3300 Northern Blvd. will be in Queens and Long Island simultaneously!
What is so diifucult with the dash? I think it makes it easier!
What's the problem with the DASH!! Are all those complaining people stupid or what? The DASH has been in Queens addresses for years, so shut up all you inane fools and keep on dashing.
22 years and you dont get it! Please move back to New Jesey.

Better still, STAY IN MANHATTAN. LEAVE NJ TO THE EX-STATEN-ISLANDERS
You manhattan cruds should leave our dashes alone. Dont you have enough of your own problems.
