New taxis to be made in Mexico

From Lost City:

A big, bulbous, boxy minivan? That's what the winner of a taxi competition is, the Nissan NV200...

Nissan beat out Karsan, a Turkish company that was going to make a vehicle capable of running on an electric-only engine, and pledged to build the cars in Brooklyn. Nissan will build theirs in Mexico. (Another suspicion confirmed: Bloomberg doesn't care about the welfare of the outer boroughs, and isn't interested in any industries in New York beyond finance, construction and tourism.)

Additionally, there are already calls for an investigation of a conflict of interest in the contract-letting. Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, and Assembly member Micah Kellner. A consultant in the competition, Ricardo Inc., has had past dealings with Nissan, a former client.

An excerpt from the city's press release:

"Additionally, Nissan has designed a wheelchair-accessible version of the NV200 that it will make available to any taxi purchaser at an additional cost."

Yeah right!

Why is the city involved in cab purchases? Do cab owners HAVE TO buy the Nissan vehicles? How much is this costing taxpayers? And finally, it seems to me that this will drive up the cost of taking a taxi.

This is totally corrupt and special interest. Where are the feds ?
What property's is the city going to confiscate to build charging stations for all these things and what guarantee will the battery's have ?
The mayor is a jackass.
Battery technology is not ready for an all electric SUX for Manhattan traffic.
Who pays when those $12,000 battery's fail after 400+ hard charge/discharge cycles ?

One of these cabs could house a whole bunch of dirty dopey-lookin' hipsters.

It's difficult to find socks that are even made in Korea any more.

I buy most of my dress shirts from Brooks Brothers, they still have some quality shirts Made In The U.S.A. But don't pay full price - buy them when they are clearance, and when they are on sale, such as the 25% "Friends and Family" sale that ends on Sunday.

It's worth the effort to buy American made products!

Bloomberg is a real NY'er alright. Doesn't give a crap about nobody.

Brooks Brothers lasts a long time, are well made, and look good.

Good value for your money.

To bad we can't say that about much else.

Tee-riffic!

So now I'm gonna be finding myself riding in a Mexican made cab with a Paki driver behind the wheel.

Groan!

Will I ever reach my destination without having to take out a mortgage to pay the fare?

Do I get a free tequilla with a long airport trip?

"Hell Gate"...this is a "Crook's Brothers" creation...another Bloomberg boondoggle!

Perchance, does hizzoner (or his taxi commissioner) own shares of Nissan?

Anonymous said...

LOL!
As long as they're not made in China...or we'd really be in for it!

Why didn't we select a Co that manufactures in the US instead? What happened to Ford, GM & Chrysler? Honda and Toyota also manufacture cars here too?

Or how about selecting a vehicle that sources some of it's parts made in NYS - is this too hard to ask for in exchange for lucrative rights?

Why the hell is everybody going to the airport anyway, boycott the airlines and stop spending your money in other countries. Stay home and spend your money here!

this is a disgrace! hey let's not help USA work... bloomberg should be ashamed of himself! FORD should be making the cars.

Why should any cab owner comply with Mayor Bloomtard's executive decision? Aren't taxis privately owned? How much did this cost taxpayers? Bottom line? WTF?

Let's all buy American so we can fill the pockets of over paid union mopes. Sorry NO Charity here.
If I like your product and the price, I will buy. It is called FREEDOM. Anyone that does anything more for "patriotic" reasons is clueless.

May your house be filled with Chinese drywall and your kids' toys full of lead paint! Here in the good old U.S of A. there are standards of quality that are higher than other countries. TROLL!

I agree! Creating jobs for Americans and improving our national economy isn't my priority. I'd rather have mine even if it means that you can't have yours!

Yeah, what's next...put a gun to my head and force me to buy what you want so you can have a job. You people are sick. If the Chinese, German, or British products are bad, people will buy others that aren't. No one should be forced or coerced to do anything they do not want to do no matter what justification you use.
Many dictators have set up shop with based on similar jingoistic foolishness.
