Private Funding Sought for Kosciuszko
from the Crain's Insider - March 11, 2011
The newly confirmed state Department of Transportation commissioner said a private-public partnership could help pay for the $800 million replacement of the Kosciuszko Bridge. Joan McDonald said she hasn't explored revenue options. Tolls would likely be needed to create revenue for private developers to pay for a new bridge connecting Greenpoint and Maspeth.
To all the selfish Greenpointers (no, not Miss Heather) who think it's a great idea to dump your unwanted depot on Maspeth, take a good hard look at who your real enemy is. Mine enemy is thine.

Tolls? Hey I know let's make one of the absolute most congested pieces of roadway in NYC even more of a custerfuck.
TOLLS? WTF? So to avoid the tolls people will go down to LIC over Van Dam, or come down Grand Ave in Maspeth, which both are already bursting at the seams during work hours. Yea, good idea.
Tolls? I thought you said trolls. See ya later!
Anonymous #1: Tolls would not add to congestion, since they would probably implement high-speed, barrierless tolling. If anything it reduce congestion by disincentivising car trips.
Not if everyone's clusterfucking at the exists on each side to avoid the toll.
Hey, it would be the first Brooklyn-Queens toll since the horse & buggy drawbridge days!
Crappy: yes, but that will probably only happen initially. Folks would get used to it.
Won't happen anyway. The bigger priority is getting tolls on the East and Harlem River bridges.
Tolls...rolls...I thought you said Poles.
I'm of Polish extraction and live in Greenpoint.
Take a NIMBY attitude and you
Greenpointers will get shafted too!
Reduce traffic and emissions and raise revenue? If the funds were diverted to improving the local environment and parks, it might be a win-win for both communities. We might even be able to pay for that waterfront cafe on the Maspeth Creek! I heard it is going to have glowing reviews.
So they don't still clusterfuck at the Van Dam exit off the LIE to avoid the Midtown Tunnel toll?
Silly me, I thought what I see each day is congestion.
"Reduce traffic and emissions and raise revenue? If the funds were diverted to improving the local environment and parks"...
What part of Tolls would likely be needed to create revenue for private developers to pay for a new bridge connecting Greenpoint and Maspeth do you not understand?
Tolls to help create revenue for private developers? Grab your ankles my friends. Looks like Bloomberg's friends are getting warmed up.
