That's called sadistic behavior used to make people dependent on their abusers. It's no different than David Dinkins saying we are obligated to walk around with crap on our head as a price for the glorious benefit of living in this sewer city. The net result is the "narcissistic masochistic affectation peer pressure" which turns the minds of everyone living here into liberal mush.
