Bayside Diner making a comeback

From Bayside Patch:

The Bayside Diner is set to reopen in a few months, according to local restauranteur, Elias Katsihtis, who said he will be part owner of the new venture, along with his brother, Spiros Katsihtis.

The Diner reportedly closed its doors last year a few months before Scobee Diner in Little Neck did the same.

The brothers say they will reopen it with the same name, and serve a similar menu.

This will go out of business soon and we will build another Korean supermarket and THERE'S nothing you can do.

Actually, shouldn't the emphasis be on "nothing", as in: "there's NOTHING you can do..."?

That is one of the ugliest buildings, especially for a diner, that I have ever seen.

I've passed it on Northern for 13 years and never understood why anyone would want to go in there.

The Crapicle had a much better story a week earlier. Though its still the Crapicle. Patch just stole it.

Bayside Diner will sling hash again
By Liz Rhoades

Diner lovers, take heart. The Bayside Diner, closed since last summer, will reopen soon.
The property at 207-07 Northern Blvd. has been leased by brothers Spiros and Elias Katsishtis, both of Whitestone, who opened the Veranda restaurant and cafe across the street from the diner last year. In an exclusive interview on Tuesday with Spiros Katsishtis’ wife, Antonia, who oversees the Veranda, details emerged about the diner’s upcoming rebirth, expected in a couple of months.
“We are very excited about it and really looking forward to the opening,” Katsishtis said. “The brothers have a lot of experience in the business and a passion about diners because diners bring life to a community.”
The brothers also run the Silver Star, a 24-hour eatery in Manhattan, and plan to offer classic diner food in Bayside. “The name will not be changed because people know it and it’s a landmark around here,” Antonia Katsishtis said.
The iconic building, just off the Clearview Expressway, will remain about the same on the exterior, but the interior is being completely gutted to make it sleeker and more modern. One dining area will have the option of being closed off for private gatherings and meetings.
When completed, the restaurant will have room for 190 customers and the 30-plus parking spots will remain. There will be on-site valet parking.
“The menu will be similar to the original one, with Greek and Italian specialties,” she said. “It will also be like the menu in Manhattan, but with Bayside prices.”
Hours will be 6 a.m. to midnight and maybe later on weekends, something to be determined later.
The Bayside Diner closed last August after the owner did not renew the lease. It had served customers for more than 45 years, beginning as the Copper Penny Diner.
Also closed last year was the Fame Diner on Union Turnpike in Fresh Meadows and Scobee’s on Northern Boulevard in Little Neck. Regulars bemoaned the loss of the longtime diners.
“The brothers are sensitive about the loss,” Katsishtis said. “We want the younger generation to have what we had, a place for families to come together. It’s part of the culture.”
She added that eating at diners “is a no-brainer. You can bring your kids, it’s casual and you know you’ll find something on the menu to satisfy everyone.”

This makes no sense.
The populate in that area is becoming Asian and Hispanic. Asians don't eat that kind of food nor patronize American businesses. Hispanics don't spend money on quality food they do $6 meals McDonalds and Burger King.
They need to sell Tacos, Paki noodles and octopus
