Time to make the ticket money so the payments to the city time contractors don't fall far enough behind that they have second thoughts about wiring their kickbacks into Hosni Bloombarak's offshore accounts.Get him out!
There is a car on 97th street (west side) between LIE service road and 62nd Drive (3 spaces in from 62nd drive) that has not moved since before christmas storm.
The DOT map says this block (the side of the new shopping mall) is ZONED for alternate side parking. (no Parking 9:30 to 11 thursdays) but the signs were removed during construction, never replaced and alternate side has't been in force since.
Meanwhile 12 space have been removed between 62nd drive and 63rd Road--to EASE congestion for the mall--What? no alternate side, double parking all hours of the day in front of mall? and no parking (NO STANDING!) a block away? I guess the fix was in.
i was outside trying to clean up the street for parking.the snow is not that easy to shovel alot of ice people should have ran out after that last big storm and cleaned up.
Actually snow plows and salters were clearing the streets in Flushing today during alternate side of the street parking hours (in tandem, the first truck plowed, the second truck, several feet behind, picked up what the first truck missed and salted out of the back. . .).
Over by the Bay Terrace shopping strip at 26th and Bell, it is a mess (there is no alternate side of the street parking -- I guess someone knows someone) and I am also guessing the owners of half those snow encrusted cars in the surrounding side streets are in Florida?
"Enough is enough its been 40 degress out streets are hot enough to melt the snow You have no reason not to dig your car out and get those spaces back.. Lazy ignorant people ...its going to freeze tuesday night"
Why should I move my car if the streets aren't going to be cleaned or plowed? If I come home today and there's just as much snow and ice on the street, why did I move my car?
I beg to differ. There are cars in my neighborhood (in the Bronx) that are completely covered. Still.
It's not a matter of being lazy, but if I don't have to go anywhere and they aren't sweeping the streets (and they won't show up in the neighborhood to cart away the snow, let's be honest), why are we moving the car? Oh right, so they can get the cleaning done.
Or the revenue they're missing out on throwing stupid tickets onto cars that didn't move so the noexistent sweeper didn't come through.
I'm also in Flushing (Murry Hill) and the street was plowed today where alternate side was. They pushed the snow into the street where the warm day melted most of it away.
Just think...when the owners of the cars that haven't moved them since Dec. 26th come and shovel their property out, where will they throw the snow/ice. In the middle of the street, of course! Now we're back to needing plows, not just for the curbside snow/ice but once again the middle of the street as well! It's a vicious circle if you ask me. Spring can't get here soon enough.
I know they're in Astoria. Elsewhere? Fat chance. They piled the snow high on the corners creating hazards for everyone because you can't see if a car is coming.
2 days into the return of alternate side parking and I've seen neither a sweeper or the snow haulers.
What I have seen is people getting out of spots they were in and double parking them on the other side of the street making the 3 foot wide lanes carved into the snow even harder to navigate.
I was surprised last week by the many cars stuck in deep ice type parking spots. Many folks were out trying to chip away at the stuff as it was melting - a good day as it was much warmer. But the city need to give more time to anywhere where folk's cars are still buried.

Actually they just cleaned 43rd st around 48th and 50th Avenues in Sunnyside. Looks pretty good....finally
I used a hammer to get rid of some
patches of ice alongside the wall
of my driveway.
As for the compacted ice/snow by the curbs, you need a sledgehammer or an ice pick, a shovel isn't going to do it.

I'm with you Vinny - but let's see what the street looks like when we get home.

nope! no street cleaning or plowing on my block today! but people received tickets!
The math is simple:
Collecting Trash and clearing snowy streets: costs city money.
Ticketing parkers: makes city money.
Its easy to see where the priorities are.

Not to mention the "Good" areas of Manhattan have had the dump trucks out TAKING THE SNOW AWAY since the second the last flake fell.
Queens... you have to deal with it on your own, lowly peasants.

Move it or lose it!

FYI, Each borough has a DSNY snow
melter, and yes they do remove snow
in certain parts of Queens using FEL's and dumptrucks

While we have "snow melters" we have less of them in Queens even though we are a *significantly* bigger borough than Princely Manhattan.

The whole thing is a jucking foke.
I believe I called it...

Shocking, right?
Yeah. Not really.
