From NY1:
For nearly 100 years, a lucky few rented the 41 cottages that line the water. But last September, the Parks Department, which owns the land, forced the residents off the 45-acre site so it could make way for a public park.
There are few details about the upcoming park, except that it will be built in stages.
The agency has sealed the site to the public, and insists it is readying the space, though former residents are not so sure.
"I think it's a little hypocritical," said former Cedar Grove resident John Murphy. "They said they're going to open it up to the public, and obviously they're not doing that. But private concerns can actually use it, and I think that's very wrong."
The state is still considering whether to give the area historic designation, which would force the city to preserve some of it.

Condemn whorrywood!
tar and feathering should make a comeback!
Thank you Adrian Benepeepee.
This is so wrong that Bloomberg and Benepe were allowed to do this. This land was taken by eminent domain back in the 60's and never used for the purpose it was taken.
That's Bloomberg for you. "I want" "I take" and F you......it's mine now.
This article says the Parks Department owns the land and that the residents were a luck few. Not so....these residents owned the land until the city took it from them via eminent domain. It figures the city would put a spin on it.
They took something that was kept beautiful by the residents of the club and will leave it to rot. Condemned....because of Bloomberg and Benepe. What a shame
The Cedar Grove Beach community has been robbed two times now - once in 1962 and again in 2010. Way to go, NYC Parks and Bloomberg - take it from the rightful owners and give it over to Hollywood.
Bloomberg and Benepe should be ashamed of themselves.
Nice. What a bunch of hypocrites. This only adds insult to injury. The property was taken away under false pretenses from the residents who used to care for it for the good of our community. Now they will just let it fall to ruin when they don't get anymore filming opportunities. The whole situation is sickening.
Parks got over $100,000 a year from the renters. Wonder what they are getting from Hollywood? The whole issue of immanent domain is out of hand. The government and the courts are just wrong. Wonder what Jefferson would have said about the matter?
Another Bloomberg legacy.
