This is what cops are busy doing

From the Daily News:

Four Queens men claim they were locked up for more than 30 hours by cops seeking revenge on a crowd of men who laughed at an officer who couldn't catch a fleeing drug suspect.

The men insist they didn't even laugh, says their lawyer Gabriel Harvis, who filed suit against the NYPD and 10 unidentified officers in Brooklyn Federal Court. They believe they were arrested because cops wanted to take their frustration out on them, he said.

"The cops knew my clients had done nothing wrong, but they didn't care," said Harvis, who represents Abdul Kabba, Isaiah Barnes, Hasan Allen and Ishmial Deas. Police "were embarrassed, so they abused their power by locking them up anyway."

The four were held for 27 hours in the 103rd Precinct stationhouse before the Queens district attorney's office dropped the charges.

I posted this because all too often I think the police waste their time on personal vendettas while real crime goes unnoticed and unpunished.

Thats nice Crappy, this, Daryl, (sigh) What ever happened to bashing asshole city planning, knucklehead politicans, and sleazy developers?

People are quitting this blog in droves. This used to be a great service ot everyone.

Did you cut a deal (as rumor had it) in exchange to serving us up this pablum?

I hope what you are getting is worth it.

Queens Crapper said...

What am I getting? What deal? This sounds so exciting!

I guess you missed the post about Sadik-Khan's chicanery right above this one.

Guilty, guilty, and guilty. And I'm sure their friend that remained unphotographed for whatever reason is guilty, too.

They are choir boys, that I'm sure of.

I'm certain you did - AND I totally agree - in fact, too many of the police force are too fat, too short, whatever to go after criminals. I would NEVER want to see a cop in distress and/or placed in a threatening situation - but, I have to be honest - I MAY HAVE LAUGHED TOO (as long as it wasn't a serious crime of course).

sorry "everybody else" but you're not supposed to be arrested in this country for laughing -

Revenge arrests? You're writing as if that's bad thing.

hey crap, get out from hiding behind your computer and walk around south jamaica trying to deal with these animals. im no cop but i work in the area and watch how these filthy people live. its all a cycle to them, fukc, reproduce, collect from the gubment and hopefully sue somebody along the way. i cant wait to move out of this city.

Queens Crapper said...

I used to work right near Rufus King Park. This is not "South Jamaica" and nothing that went on in that park justifies revenge arrests.

From the article:
A police source familiar with the incident said the men were lawfully arrested for pot possession and tampering with evidence, but that the DA chose not to proceed.

Looks like these four angels should be thanking that DA. Jackholes.

Anonymous said...

cops make lawfull arrests all the time, present their case to an ADA and the ADA decides what to do. with an understaffed office the ADA needs to decide what cases to prosecute. just because these guys were released doesnt mean it was an unlawful arrest. stop believing everything you read in the media.

Queens Crapper said...

I never believe everything I read in the media. I believe it unfolded this way because I have heard countless other complaints just like this. And if it wasn't prosecutable, why make the arrest in the first place? They knew exactly what the DA would do with this case.

Oh, that's right .... quotas.

That's funny - I can't wait for you to move out of me!

Cops are mind readers now? Awesome!

Queens Crapper said...

They know from their past experience. And they knew it would get thrown out because the point was to ballbust, not fight crime.

Many minor cases are defered/not prosecuted because the judges complain about corts clogging and an increase in their workloads(they haven't a raise in 10 years). so yeah, the arrest was lawful.every mutt whose case is not prosecuted think they are being persecuted. Da's will do as they please.Case in point: Back in the late 80's i arrested a guy in a stolen auto in bklyn. If the car was reported solen more than 24hrs after the perp was arrested, they would automatically charge unautorized ue,a misdemeanor. When the ada saw the the arrest was made in front of her residence, she charged the perp w/ gla,a felony, even though it was 40 hrs after the theft. Crappy as far as all the stories you've heard, most people don't tell the whole truth, especially one who has been arrested/ticketed.yes,there is a lot of minor aggravating laws that are being enforced to gain revenue;but in my 20 years i didn't find many truthful people.........

Queens Crapper said...

Once again, if many minor cases are not prosecuted, then it would make sense for cops to concentrate on major crimes. When the citizenry can't get the police to come and take reports for major crimes, cops have no business looking for or inventing minor ones.

And if the tables were turned here and one of the fine citizens of Jamaica had called and said there were young men congregating in the park, and it looked like they were selling drugs, and the cops "never came to take a report" as you always like to insist they don't, you'd be bitching about that, Crappy. Make up your mind: hate cops for doing their job, or hate cops for not doing their job. You can't have it both ways.

You don't want cops to make arrests for "unprosecutable crimes" yet you and your readers are here pissing like bitches if cops don't come to take a report for graffiti, or bums in the park, or whatever other foolishness you're always crying about here.

When you posted your version of the DN's article here, you left out some key parts, that I'm sure most of your loyal Crappists neglected to read:

The four were initially charged with possession of marijuana found in the bag in the garbage can.

A police source familiar with the incident said the men were lawfully arrested for pot possession and tampering with evidence, but that the DA chose not to proceed.

The bag recovered at the scene contained 31 glassine envelopes of marijuana, the police source said. "Does that sound like someone smoked all the marijuana?"

Queens Crapper said...

Hmm, I thought we weren't supposed to believe everything we read in the papers. You can't have it both ways, pal. But I'll play along. How about this passage?

The incident started about 4p.m. on Aug. 19, when cops approached a group blocking an entrance to Rufus King Park in Jamaica and saw someone throw a bag in a garbage can, a police source said.

They began searching members of the group, including the plaintiffs. An unidentified man told officers he had smoked all the marijuana and took off running with a cop in pursuit, according to the suit.

If they weren't the ones that were holding the bag, and weren't the ones that threw it out, how is it that they were charged with marijuana possession and tampering with evidence? Anyone with a brain would know that would never stand up in court and was not worth prosecuting.

Nope, I call bullshit on this "lawful arrest" defense

you and your readers are here pissing like bitches if cops don't come to take a report for graffiti, or bums in the park, or whatever other foolishness you're always crying about here.

We are "pissing like bitches" because cops are responsible for responding to these complaints and they don't. Quite frankly, when they are asked to do their jobs, they don't and waste their time and our money on personal quests and vendettas.

Is this asshole cop saying that graffiti in progress is not a prosecutable offense? Or just not worth his time?

Anonymous said...

UPSTANTDING CITIZENS THE LOT OF THEM. WHAT TIME DID THIS OCCUR?

COPS NOW HAVE TO PLAY DA OR ADA AND MAKE SURE THE LEGIT ARREST IS PROSECUTEABLE OR NOT? IF ITS ILLEGAL THAT SHOULD BE IT. SOUNDS LIKE THE DA GOT SCARED OF POSSIBLE BAD PUBLICITY BEFORE HIS NEW TERM.

BUT WHAT DO I KNOW , OR DO I?

Anonymous said...

You know what, Crappy, I was going to point out yet more flaws in your thinking that cops need to worry about whether the DA will process their arrests or not, but you're doing a pretty good job yourself of making it painfully clear that you're just anti-cop, and nothing will change your mind.

Queens Crapper said...

Not anti-cop. Anti asshole cops. And there seem to be more of them since the standards have been lowered.

Queens Crapper said...

More asshole cops. I wonder why these charges were dropped since we all know that all cops only make lawful arrests.
