NEW YORK (WABC) -- Straphangers may feel the city's subway system is a little less safe these days.Subway crime is up 5 percent.
The increase could be age-related, as the NYPD says 15 percent of all subway crime is committed by teenagers.
The most common crimes include stealing cell phones and iPods.
Subway crime is still about 55 percent lower than it was just six years ago.

I can't even get to the subway due to the horrible job that DSNY has done plowing the outer boroughs! Bloomberg thinks nothing exists out of Manhattan. Some blocks in Queens are completely buried. This is Bull$hi+ !!!
The old Transit Police Dept had 4500 members pre-merge.The NYPD Transit Bureau has 1900....................do the math.....

I see them all the time at the main stations, Roosevelt Avenue, Queensboro Plaza, Ditmars Blvd, 71/Forest Hills etc. Granted, their numbers seem to be smaller. Could Bloomberg and Kelly be secretly phasing out the Transit Bureau to send personnel over to cover precinct patrols?
