From the Times Newsweekly:
Residents along a Maspeth block worked together to help bust an illegal dumper who was spotted attempting to drop off debris on a vacant lot last Wednesday night, Nov. 10.
Homeowners on Mazeau Street contacted the Sanitation Department and police at about 6:30 p.m. last Wednesday after observing one man and his assistant, who were offloading styrofoam and wooden pallets from a truck onto a site located off the intersection of Mazeau Street and 57th Drive.
According to local residents and activists, the location has allegedly been used by its owner to illegally dump construction debris and other material for many years. Reportedly, in some cases, neighbors observed workers burying trash in holes dug on the site.
After the two men arrived at the Mazeau Street property and attempted to offload debris, neighbors banded together and stood in the driveway leading to the lot to prevent the vehicles from leaving the scene, said civic activist Christina Wilkinson.
“We wouldn’t let one truck through,” said Maspeth resident Linda Daquaro, who recounted the scene on Mazeau Street last Wednesday.
The Sanitation Department was contacted a short time later, and members of its police unit responded to the scene. Matt Lipani, a spokesperson for the DSNY, told the Times Newsweekly that the driver of the truck involved—identified as Youzhang Lin of Eldridge Street in Manhattan—was issued a summons for dumping 12 to 15 cubic yards of debris.
Sanitation police officers also seized the truck, which is registered to Lan N. Son Trading Inc. of Brooklyn.
Lin faces a maximum fine of $2,000 for the offense, which may be challenged in Environmental Control Board court, Lipani added.

Maspeth Mom says....
Congratulations to the Mazue Street residents!! A $2,000.00 fine is nothing, but they seized his truck and that will stop his business of illegal dumping and teach him a lesson. They deserve praise for standing up for themselves and their environment.
They should investigate the owner of the truck as well who maybe responsible for other dump sites throughout the area or city.
Great job by the residents banding together to apprehend the suspects. The area along the expressway including 57Ave is notorious dumping ground of all kinds, including dumping material by and onto the Conrail tracks. None of these streets see police patrols as they are quiet areas other than the dumping going on.
They seized the truck! That is great incentive to prevent dumping. Signs indicating the penalty should be posted, yahoo!
They came back and dumped more but with a red van this time! I think it is time to call on Mocker to the rescue.....
Great story! I hope it appears in every foreign-language newspaper!
It's especially great to hear of a neighborhood banding together to do something positive!
Unfortunately the same chinese people who are dumping will someday buy the houses these residents live in or own. Open your eyes and look what is REALLY happening in your neighborhood. You will be forced out one way or another by the greedy and shady chinese landlords who are taking over.
Good Job Christina!
Congratulations! nice story.
amazing that they would drive all the way from Manhattan to dump the garbage.
is this how they do things in China?

No, in china, they just drop it into the river. For them, this is progress!!!
Deport these fucks.
don't know if they came from manhattan to dump in queens, but the truck sanitation police took was from brooklyn... and yes the asians bastards came back with a van and dumped more.. what will this city and officals do! the city sold them the land, they're abusing our laws, so i think the city should take it away!!
Use your cameras so you have everything recorded. Keep turning thses people in and maybe someday, not in my lifetime, it'll stop. I'll even bet you that the dumping is coming via China into Manhattan because their rivers are so filled up with crap. These people are destroying this great country and our government allows it to happen.
