Human smuggling ring busted

From Fox News:

Twenty-three New York City business owners were arrested for their role in sneaking illegal Chinese immigrants into the U.S. to work at restaurants and other establishments, federal officials told FOXNews.com Thursday.

James Hayes Jr., U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Special Agent in Charge for New York, said the aliens were often held in unsanitary conditions and were transported to and from the establishments daily.

The eight-month investigation culminated on Wednesday and Thursday with arrests at the employment establishments, which were located in the city's Chinatown neighborhood.

"We anticipate at least one more [arrest]," Hayes told FOXNews.com, adding that the immigrants were believed to have paid up to $75,000 each to be smuggled into the U.S. from China.

Once in New York City, owners of employment agencies would place the aliens -- the majority of whom were male -- to work in restaurants, Hayes said.

It was unclear how long the operation had been going on.

Where has law enforcement been? There are literally over 1 million illegal immigrants in NYC. Any fool in Queens can point out the SRO in 1 family houses that these people live in. Human smuggling for money does not stop generating revenue once these folks are successfully ashore. In the past, the smuggler's launder their money by buying real estate in cash and convert non-discript single family homes where legitimate Chinese middle class live and house illegal worker, provided services such as sex, cooking, transportation and employment. The same smugglers eventually have tremendous amounts of cash to invest in businesses that otherwise require labor that their illegal pool of workers fill cheaply. They also pay for protection to Chinese gangs to insure their interests are not encroached upon other gangs. The same protection collect tributes from the illegals to insure they are not reported to the authorities. NYC Politicians do nothing to stop this as their monetary support comes from the business owners including their increasingly support in votes.

Are they planning to deport all the people who were smuggled here and their jack pot babies too?
very happy to see this story.
how about the ICE stands on 65th street Harts Park and Roosevelt Ave near the substation? that would save ICE so much time.
why aren't Americans asking how this is allowed to continue? This arrest is the tip of the iceberg.
What amazes me is that Americans are supposed to have sympathy for the living conditions while the illegals are busy destroying our quality of life. yet, they are the ones with the jobs, cars, houses and access to higher education.

correction: have ICE set up a post on Roosevelt Avenue near the subway station. put ICE on the number 7 train.

I'm sure this has been going on for a very long time. In some areas of Queens, you hardly hear English spoken anymore. Where has the law enforcement been all this time? Is it because of Bloomberg and his Sanctuary City law, where there is a hands off policy? I can see where the NYC Police have to obey this order, but I have to question where the Federal Government and Enforcement has been.

Lets face it folks, from tweeding to election 'issues', the Democratic Machine, not the Federal Goverment controls things.

begs the question, where did these folks come up with $75K?

heck they could go to mexico and walk across our southern border for free and have $74k left to get started with.

I wonder if Tommy Huang has a side interest in the business.

Try scoping 164th Street between Crocheron Avenue and Depot Road...
particularly the three clubs (i.e."OB's Cavern") on the block that are probably whore houses where indentured sex slaves are working off their smuggling fees.

Black limos are often seen a lot on weekends shuttling "girls" to unknown destinations and awaiting customers like pizzas delivered to your door.

HEY...109th WHERE ARE YOU...too busy getting payoffs & favors?

One has to question men in their 60s patronizing establishments like these featuring scantily dressed women in their 30s.

They're obviously not models or hostesses!

So when are the day laborers who loiter about on 69th Street from Queens Blvd. given summons for such nuisance crime and then arrested for breaking federal laws when residency card or proof of valid ID cannot be produced?

Uphold the law! What happened to the rule of law, is it not sacred? Does this mean I don't need to follow laws? (Probably not since I am a citizen....)

And it's not as if you can't run a restaurant with legal employees. This is greed on the part of business owners.

Since the elected polititians can't or won't uphold the laws of the land, than maybe its time for the citizenry to arm themselves and act on the laws in place. If an individual enters the United States illegally, than that individual deserves to be deported. This way those who are here illegally will fear walking the streets with impunity.

No doubt, Flooshing played a part in this.
