From the Times Ledger:
After more than a century, the Wonder Bread and Hostess factory in Jamaica will be closing down in January, the food goods company announced Friday.
The head of Hostess Brands said changing market conditions and the factory’s conditions were the reasons for the closures, which will mean the loss of 200 jobs.
The more than 140-year-old factory at 168-23 Douglas Ave. was in need of modernization and the corporation could not afford the large undertaking, according to Brian Driscoll, the chief executive officer of Hostess.
The factory was established by the Shults Bread Co. in the 1870s and it ran the business until 1921, when it was sold to William Ward’s United Bakeries. The factory was sold again to Interstate Bakeries Inc., the Hostess parent company, in 1995.

A shame. The memory of riding past that factory and smelling the bread baking.
It was only a matter of time.
i remember going into deli's around there and buying hostess cupcakes and they were so fresh like they just came out of the oven..(and they did!)
White bread's no good for you anyway.
But I don't like the job's going away.

You're correct, eating too much white bread causes one to incorrectly use the apostrophe.

Mmmmmmmmmmm. What kind of "spread" would you use?
Personally, I'm glad that establishment is closing.
I understand that they were selling Twinkies in there!
If you've been following the news, you should know my opinion of Twinkies!
Why doesn't Gary Ackerman come to the rescue? He has a pair of snowballs! Of course, they melt away when things get hot!!!
PS He likes to suck out the cream from the center.
Damn this site is sooo educational.
Buffalo Bob used to sell Wonder Bread on the Howdy Doody show. He told the Peanut Gallery in the studio and at home to ask Mom to buy the bread with the balloons on the wrapper.
Make that so-o-o-o educational.
Ditto. Could smell the bread even from inside a LIRR train speeding by.
There was a Wonder Bread blimp operated by Douglas Leigh. It flew over NYC with a colorful nightsign.

You're showing your age George!
Are you older than Methuselah?
I begat Methuselah with Princess Summerfall Winterspring . . . on a loaf of Wonder Bread . . . on the Howdy Doody show.
Kowabonga!
Don't worry, the Wonder Bread factory will be replaced by something that's more Vibrant! and Diverse! that was there before.
Churros anyone?

Exchanging one type of loaf for another?
Don't worry, it'll all be half-baked!
unfortunately, some of the laziest people alive worked in that plant. As a truck driver I had to make deliveries there and always found the parking space for trucks filled with cars of employees who would then come out 15 minutes later with no remorse on their faces.
Good riddance! Happy not to go there ever again!
