Time to bend over again
NEW YORK (CBS 2) — Get ready for your clothing budget to take a hit. Starting this Friday, afforable clothes in New York will become more expensive.
The state’s sales tax exemption for clothing and footwear costing less than $110 will expire. That means a 4-percent price increase starting on October 1.
The tax was reinstated to help close the state’s budget deficit.
The exemption returns next April, but only for purchases less than $55.

New York just screwed themselves out of lots of money because the middle class (you know, the ones supporting this state) will just spend their money in New Jersey.
Clothing? Who the hell needs and buys so much clothing anymore? Honestly, just more crap that people don't need. Go visit Jersey and buy your jeans and t-shirts.
Shop in PA no sales tax on clothes at any price.
Stupidity in Government once again. I'm just going to do my shopping in New Jersey. Just like everyone else. If the state government was smart, they would leave this exemption in place. This is one more reason to vote out all incumbents in November.
You out of state shoppers are all breaking the law. Haven't you ever heard of the NYS Use Tax? When you buy something in another state that has a lower sales tax than NY you're supposed to voluntarily make up the difference and send it along when you file your NYS IT 201 by April 15. You even sign the form saying that you did this.
Right?
Right.
Really georgetheatheist? NYPD break their own laws all the time.

I don't know if you ever noticed but there is a large percentage of the population that is not exclusively wearing jeans and t-shirts.
I though couldn't care less about the sales tax - it's not that much money.
The government should mind their own business when it comes to personal consumption. The last time I looked I had rights and I will buy my clothing and personal items wherever and whenever I want. How many times can this government tax us to line their pockets? Why do we have to pay for their waste and inefficiency? They should set a budget and live within their means, just like the taxpayers do. The state will get less revenue because of this stupid tax. What a bunch of idiots in Albany! Bring back the commuter tax if you want revenue.
Bloomberg doesn't care about the new clothes tax. If I recall correctly, the Emperor didn't wear any clothes.
Don't forget: a lot of stores were charging the sales tax anyway and just keeping the cash. Now the will have to raise prices to keep the same cash flow.
Save money by wearing a uniform to work. Who needs to wear clothes when not at work anyway?
TAX THE RICH.
MAKE THEM PAY FOR THE DAMAGE THEY DID TO THIS COUNTRY.
re:tax the rich...../ Go back to communist cuba. you class warfare nutcase....
Who the hell needs and buys so much clothing anymore?

Chinese sweatshop clothes dont last more than two or three wearings, sadly.
I'd buy american, but i cant find any!
Wow. Y'all are gonna go to Jersey, huh? Assuming we're all Queens folk, then that likely means taking the GWB or one of the tunnels to get there.
Between the enormous stresses of traffic and driving in general, as well as the waste of toll and gas money, it should be a monetary wash.
Throw in the fact that my beloved home state needs money, I think I'll save the stress, money, and gas and just suck it the fuck up.
So you spend 27.5 Million on changing street signs using tax payers money and here we go again with F*cking the Tax Payer.. Why don't you use the "sign budget" to pay of the city's woo's! When is this sh*t going to stop... Shame on you Bloomberg! Shame on you!
Glad the media let us know before Oct 1,
but with all the coverage of Hollywood and bias crimes and ribbon cutting by tha maya and life style issues and the latest ghetto knife attack and the illegals killed in fires in some barracks we hardly have time to make the politicans look bad.
Shame they spoil things by doing it themselves.
