From NY1:
About 17,000 thousand students will walk into brand new classrooms next week, and city officials say it is the most new space the School Construction Authority has ever opened in a single year since it was created in 1988.
Schools Chancellor Joel Klein said he could not be happier.
"There are colleagues of mine, they don't see 30 buildings in the course of a lifetime, and we are seeing that basically this year in New York City," said Klein.
Despite all the new seats, though, schools are still overcrowded in many neighborhoods. A report by the Independent Budget Office last month found half of high school students attended overcrowded schools last year. That is down 15 percent, thanks to the capital plan construction, but is still an ongoing problem.

Is that a lunchroom or a classroom? Ship out all the illegal aliens and see how much room you have in the classroom. What a disgrace.
each body in the school seat is worth $20,000.00 to the D.O.E. and UNITED FEDERATION OF TEACHERS.
legal or illegal anchor baby ? the money talks and the b.s. walks.
and the taxpayer pays more each year, like the n.y.c.D.O.E. budget which in 2010-2011 is $21,000,000,000,00.
People who who actually find a way to look at themselves in the mirror and still complain about new schools. Fascinating.
Well let's see. Who are these new schools teaching? The progeny of illegals. Who is paying for it? Taxpayers. Are we getting our money's worth? Judging from the test scores, no. I think we have the right to be outraged.
Free up 30% of all seats in the NYC Public School system, How? Student's parents must provide a green card or proof of citizenship.
