Tree causing big headache in Bellerose

From the Times Ledger:

A Bellerose civic leader said a tree next to his property has been a thorn in his side after a branch fell into his backyard and he criticized the city Parks Department for saying it would take the agency 45 days to remove the branch.

Mike Augugliaro of the Queens Colony Civic Association said about six branches from the Callery Pear tree have fallen off, including a couple two weeks ago.

Augugliaro said he is concerned the branch, a portion of which is in his backyard and another part which is hanging between his fence and the sidewalk, may lead to lawsuits against him if someone gets hurt.

“It’s my tree when the city wants it to be my tree, but it’s theirs if they want it to be theirs,” he said. “It’s unexcusable — 45 days to pick up a tree? I wanted [to use] my backyard for the Fourth of July.”

The civic leader tied plastic bags to warn people walking on the sidewalk about the tree, but he said someone still bumped their head on the branch.

He said the base of the tree is causing problems with the sidewalk, making it lift, which could cause someone to trip on the irregular pavement.

The base of the tree making the sidewalk lift...that describes maybe a quarter of all the mature street trees out there...we can either make much wider tree pits or else remove all the trees when they become mature if this is the standard.

North Hempstead is taking care of Great Neck (A high density pinnunsula of 90% Democrat voters)first.
To add these bastards unloaded a dump truck of debres 6 feet high into my driveway and left it for 5 days.
(Claimed it was an emergency)
Aver dozens of calles ending with the old "not available in a meeting" stroke job the Superviser then locked himself in his office called the cops on me when I showed up to talk to him in person.
...the stuff then got cleaned up

If this tree were in Manhattan, it would get removed the next day.

It looks like the tree is about to hit the guy on his head.

It's too bad Gary the tree doesn't hit you in the head. You are about the biggest dope on this blog site - bar none. Your comments are totally insipid. Why don't you whack off instead of hitting the keyboard?

I had a city tree fall in front of my house on 06/24 and the FDNY cut it immediately to open up the road.

The fallen tree's roots damaged the sidewalk.

Parks Department removed the remaining trunk, but left roots that are still upheaving the sidewalk, underneath.

I need a permit to either do repairs myself or have a contractor do it.

311 forwarded my calls to NYC DOT QUEENS PERMIT MANAGEMENT, but I got an answering machine and left 2 messages, but neither of my calls were returned since last week.

Mayor Bloomberg wants to plant more city trees in front of NYC residents' property. Great idea, Mike.
