Great job, DOB!

Illegal conversion

+

bad wiring

=

5 people dead.

NY1 is the only media outlet reporting this, so far:

Residents tell NY1 there are four apartments and some 20 people living in the building.

There have been two complaints filed against the property owner; one in 2007 and another in 2005 about an illegal conversion.

Once again DOB is living up to its "sterling" reputation...department of bumblers and department of bribe-takers!

In NYC you will never see the day the police (or sheriff or DOB) starts to put people out of their homes on to the street, because they are living "illegally". The outcry will be huge.

Why no outcry when there are dead bodies?

Plus, they have no problem evicting hipsters from lofts.

The DOB, as the gatekeeper to the safety-worthiness of buildings in NYC should take a more active and responsible role in protecting the inhabitants of those buildings. Especially residential buildings.
The DOB, currently has a policy that NO 3 piece bathroom should exist in a basement. UNLESS there's no door there. BUT, even if my basement is a recreation room, and I fall asleep there, and a fire starts, I wont have a way to get out. Thanks DOB!

DOB gave the convicted criminal Tommy Huang a free pass for years on his illegalities.

Some DOB bribery ringleader got rich off of it.

Oh...but eventually that inspector was sentenced to serve jail time.

Then he was probably (shortly thereafter) sprung after a Huang owned judge commuted his sentence.

Didn't Huang once boast that he had friends at the Queens DOB...a backdoor to city hall...a judge in his pocket?

H-m-m-m-m-m...
nice to have a multi departmental free pass.

It appears that under the guidance of the late corrupt Donald Manes...Tommy Huang wrote the bible on sidestepping the building codes that other crooks are following to the letter even today!

Now his son Henry is walking in daddy's footsteps.

Another bad seed has sprouted.

Bloomberg himself was taped saying "if we removed all the illegal apartments, where would those people go?" demonstrating his mindset on this issue, they are deliberately looking the other way to maintain a pool of cheap labor and these dead bodies are the result.

It looks like this was a murder-suicide, and not a wiring illegal apt issue.....

Funny how violent crimes often happen in illegally converted dwellings.

The 14 year old slashed his whole family torched the house then slashed himself.

for decades the libtards have told us how important illegally converted housing is as it "serves a need"- why can't the majority of this damned city wake the hell up ??? or is voting fraud this huge ?

Yes, it was determined to be a murder-arson-suicide. But the mother was apparently still alive and was crawling away from the fire, and the neighbors said if some cops hadn't been passing by and banged on their doors, they probably would have been victims, too. The point is that this home was illegally converted, had outstanding violations and nothing was done about it. I like how some people are asserting that because there was a crime involved, that it makes the illegal conversion somehow less serious. There should not be 20 people living in a one-family house.

The other question that begs asking is "where's the babydaddy?"

Evidently the 14-year-old boy was a troublemaker who had a prior criminal record and had set fires. From the NY Times:

"Ms. Brooks, at the day care center, said (the mother) had had a 'motherly talk' with C. J. on Monday after he was suspended from school. She said she had told him, 'You’ve got to behave better. You’re the man of the house.'”

sad. she had 4 kids by 4 different men (his dad was in jamaiica). lotta pressure on a 14 yr old to have to take care of kids who arent even his father's... not excusing it, but that situation woulda depressed me as a 14 yr old...
