Who needs history?

From True News From Change NYC.org:

You're taught as a kid that those that do not understand history...are forced to repeat its mistakes. If anyone has talked to someone under 30 recently, you know that the education system has left them without the basic understanding of American history among other things. Add that to the high number of immigrants who only understand the American history they were forced to learn to become Americans, the question to ask is "Who will learn about the Americans like George Washington who built this country and the major mistakes we made like slavery and isolation of an entire race during WWII?"

If we want the American culture to continue we must pass it down to each new generation. Without the focus of a regent test on history, schools will continue to cut the teaching of American history.

Social studies 'ex'ams Regents eye axing test - The annual history and civics exams given to public-school students in grades 5 and 8 are set to fall victim next week to state Education Department's budget cuts (NYP)

" This book has taught me more about our history then any I've read in years. A patriots history of the U.S should be a required reading for all Americans. -- Glenn Beck "

Listen, its all the same: Howard Zinn's " a peoples history of the united states" was great. As long as you acknowledge that regardless of the bull shit political slant the history of the country is important your making a great first step.

Its the title of the book boy.

The name "America" was coined by one of the first navigators to America ( as in traveling by by sea ) Amerigo Vespucci. And although the native Americans were here first ill let you know they certainly did not own this land. As the concept of owning land was alien to them, it was not a universal view. And why the fuss over GB? he is a man whom i'm sure knows history much more then you :)

Ay-yi-yi. Now we really need a history lesson.

The name "America" was "coined" (actually inscribed) on a map that the German cartographer Martin Waldseemueller drew in conjunction with his cartographic colleague Matthias Ringmann in the early 1500's. It's a long, fascinating story. If you have the time, look it up:

Fill in the blank. "This site is _____________"

I don't use wiki as a source "Ay-yi-yi-yi" =)

isolation of an entire race during WWII?

What the FUCK does the Holocaust have to do with American history?

If anyone wants a GREAT book to read, Norman Finklestein: The Holocaust Industry

Well put previous commenter.

And anyone who looks to Glenn Beck for credibility is laughable. Beck edits his facts when "engaging" someone.
Even those around him at Fox admits hes full of it.

Excellent article straight from Becks own words.
Glenn Beck himself from a Forbes magazine profile:

"I could give a flying crap about the political process." Making money, on the other hand, is to be taken very seriously, and controversy is its own coinage. "We're an entertainment company," Beck says.

And right now, anger and insanity sells with Beck's white, conservative, Christian audiences.

Later in the same Forbes article the publisher of Talkers magazine is quoted as saying, "I don't necessarily believe that [what Beck says] is reflective of his own personal politics. I don't even know if he has personal politics. I see him as a performer."

Even though he's extraordinarily unfunny, he's just as effective as America's sleaziest and most notorious televangelists when it comes to scamming his audience into believing say, that a random misspelled acronym actually means something significant or that just because the presidents mother enjoyed Nietzsche means that she was somehow a socialist.Nietzsche was no fan of socialism.
